Hi Ol Hoss, welcome to the trainBoard. We're happy to have you on board, especially since you are drawn to the ex-B&M Conn River District.... Since it's coming on summer, my suggestion would be to take a hiking vacation up the Conn River Line from Brattleboro to St. Albans. OK, maybe just take a room in White River Jct. for a few weeks and walk/drive north and south to get a feel of some really neat railroad ROW, bridges, and scenery. 'Tain't nothin' like Florida, doncha know...:tb-cool: Here's a page or two of photos, no particular order, but might give you a sense of the scenery. http://www.google.com/search?q=boston+%26+maine+connecticut+river+photos&hl=en&rlz=1R2ADRA_enUS389&biw=1339&bih=595&prmd=ivns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=R5HlTbKBIIPW0QGF76CiBw&ved=0CCMQsAQ
I was born and raised in St Albans and hung out by the spur lines flattening pennies in the early sixties. I now live in FL. Makes it a little hard to take a hiking trip LOL! Was looking for a site or sites with mucho pictures to help me. There are some locations where the line ran that were awesome! I am going to combine the Vermonter with my freight train memories. Will have to take some trips and take photos, photos, photos.
The New England Rail Photo archive might provide some inspiration in this regard... http://photos.nerail.org/
