Thursday I'm going to take an Amtrak from Milwaukee, WI to Springfield, IL. I was wondering if this train stops in Galesburg. I don't think it does, but I just want to make sure. Because if it does, I might just have to "accidentally" get off at the wrong stop and stay a while in Galesburg [IMG] Make a quick trip to the alter, head over to the Ramada and stop by for a swim, catch some action near the station, then find another way to get to Springfield [IMG]

Nope, no stop in Galseburg on your trip, but you will go through my town, Lincoln. Except for the Amtrak trains, we really don't have a lot of railfanning here in town. The NS junctions with the UP/Amtrak main in Springfield and once you get to the Alton area, the rail action starts to pick up into the St. Louis Metro area. Have fun! [IMG]

J.U.S.? Yeah, I'd stop there! [IMG] What Train are you taking out of C.U.S., 303? If that's the one, you could hang out in Joliet from 10:10AM till about 4:20PM when 305 gets there. You wouldn't get into Springfield until 6:47PM, unless you stay in Joliet until the next morning and take 303 again. [IMG]

Yeh, I'm taking train 303. No matter how much I'd love to stay in Joliet for a couple of hours, I can't. Gotta meet the family down in Springfield for thanksgiving. We'll probably eat aorund 6 or 7, so 305 is out of the question. I sure would love to do that though. Maybe I'll see some UP at the Springfield station? I know most trains go through Springfield at night and in the early morning from past experience, but maybe I'll get lucky [IMG]

If you can swing anytime at Joliet it's well worth it. I stopped there for 4 hours last month and got a ton of trains - mostly BNSF but some UP and IAIS, plus of course Metras & Amtrak.

On this Corridor, we're working on that Alan. It's one of the possible "High Speed Corridors" in Illinois. They hope to get 110 MPH with in the next year and then add about six new trains (three each direction) to the six it already has. The Texas Eagle, 303 and 305 would stay at 110 MPH but the new trains would be High-Speed Limiteds that would stop at fewer staions and travel at least 135 MPH.(Lincoln is about half way between Bloomington-Normal and Springfield so we would probably not be a stop for the Limiteds. [IMG]) All these trains would remain diesel-electric powered. Hanging wire from Chicago to St. Louis would be WAY too expensive to install and maintain. This line is currently a single track Main with passing tracks every five to ten miles. It is supposed to be returned to it's original double track main configuration for the High Speed Trains by 2002. We'll see...they seem to change their minds alot on this project. Originaly, it was to be completed five years ago. [IMG]
