I am going to go out on a limb and say; probably only in brass. There is only one paint scheme, other than the Amtrak California Cars (Surfliner Cars are almost duplicates of the earlier Cali Cars), so I would be very surprised if both schemes are produced in plastic.
Hate to disagree but there are diffs between Cali & Surf cars being made by 2 different manufacturers-at least in HO scale. Would bet that Athearn would come out w/ Surfliners to go w/ their F59PHIs. There's been plenty of rumors about that on other boards.
Another thought on that is that if Athearn makes it, Bev-bel will paint it and microscale will make the decals for it. Keep your eyes out.

Most of the difference, as I see it, between the Cali Cars and Surfliners are mostly interior, other than the addition of the new destination signage,as Alstom has the patents on the Amerail California Cars. They were built at the same Hornell NY plant. The largest differences that I see are these: The cab car on the Surfliners have the horns moved to beneath the passageway. The lights on the cab car are now in the triangle (altho the top is horizontal), versus the 2 by 2 on the California Cars. Some of the window arrangements are different between the 2 orders (a couple look like they were "inverted"). I have a roll of film I shot awhile back in California that I need developed, has both California Cars and Surfliners on it. If you can tell me other differences other than what I have cited above, I would be most grateful.
I have 5 Superliners that I want to change into Surfliners, Does anyone know if there are decals for the Surfliner Cars? Thanks!
