Seeing as Amtrak loses money on many trains, I thought their financial picture might have brightened with train cancellations. The Silver Star runs near our home and it's one of ATK's worst money losers. During the height of COVID it went from a daily train to a weekend train. In any case, railroading is a high fixed cost business and the rail freight carriers suffer just the same when times get tough.
When it is difficult to use your service, you certainly won't have the cash flow you desire. I wonder if they furloughed any people, or were required to keep paying wages and benefits.
