Well as Yogi said, "It's not over till it's over." But the lack of any real news from the first day is some what disheartening.

ESMC (Bryan) had some interesting announcements but I'm not going to steal his thunder...

Puddy, the GMD-1 looks really nice. I may have to bend history for one of those... I think I'll be immune to the Osgood-Bradley passenger cars but that means I can avoid the stampede of NH modelers!

After seeing the picture I just ordered a GMD-1 (just could not resist) and made a list of Osgood-Bradleys I should order as soon as my dealer puts it in his webshop.

Apparently nothing from the big guys. Blaming the lack of product, especially new product on the China situation is getting very old. I don't follow it but I don't think HO is in the same situation as we are. That being said, I have to admit that of the N scale items that have been released there hasn't been anything that I would classify as a "gotta have" item.

Nothing from the big guys on Railwire either. Atlas released their Jan-June 2014 catalogue but it is just repaints of existing models. Maybe it is the economy?

    Maybe it's your memory?

There's numerous new products that we know about that haven't hit the shelves yet or are only in their first releases.

Atlas has the PS-1 with 6', 7' and 8' door where the 6' door version has yet to be announced. They also just announce formally the 2750 hopper. And the S2, a model people have been begging for is on its' way.

Intermountain has new flat cars that aren't out yet edit: and a new single sheathed box car on the way.
Kato's autoracks are about to hit the shelves for their first release.
FVM has the Canstock box cars, H30 hoppers and Heritage SD79Aces which is a new model. The B&O wagon top caboose is new too.
    BLMA's Dry-Flo's were just released.
ESMC just announced two new cars.
Bachmann's S4 and NW-2 are all less than a year new.
MTL has the SW1500, announced the new diner heavyweight and confirmed the baggage car.
Rapido has the GMD-1 and American Flyer cars.
Train-worx's PD3000 is only a year out from it's announcement.

I'm sure I've missed some. How much new stuff do you expect to have going on at one time?

Would've expected Atlas to have shrunk their O scale Alco RSD-7/15 down to N by now.

I believe he was speaking specifically of any previously unknown new items being announced at this one show. Not items already revealed beforehand.

But that's just semantics. Several things we knew about could have been held back for the show. It doesn't really change that fact that there's a bunch of new tooling recently done and soon on the way. There is a saturation level for how much you can hit the market with at one time.

And since when was this show the place for new announcements anyway. I thought it was still the National show that got the big news.

After following many a discussion here, there seem to be announcements made at several times and places, throughout the year.

Which is exactly what happened. Three new freight cars and a new passenger car are a pretty good for one show.

The silence from the big guys [Atlas, Athearn, Kato, Intermountain] is deafening.

Yes, coming all the way from Arizona? Yes, I'm sure there are better shows closer to home.
Me? I am glad I went but my main reason for going was the 'overall' experience. New product announcements were at the bottom of list since I have stopped buying. The expanse of going hotel / transportation dinner out / etc for two was my model RR budget for the year.
Second reason was to celebrate five years of knowing ♥My Love♥, (Laura).
Bonus: Meeting Daniel Levitt and Puddington.

It's still one of the very few shows that afford you the rare opportunity to interact directly with many of the manufacturers - whether, or not, they are making new product announcements.
Likewise, the quantity and variety of layouts on display is extraordinary.

If you're expecting a big N scale announcement from Athearn, then there's nothing more I can do.

    Photos from the show

I was only able to go to the show on Sunday, but still managed to take a some pictures.
They are available on Flickr in the Amherst Train Show 2014 set.

Names, descriptions and tags will be added to the photos as I get around to it.

    A few samples:

Too much show for one day! It was great to meet so many folks and see model railroading at its best.

    Cheers,
    Mike
