American Freedom Train

And here is all the completed exhibits for the 2 display cars. I am very happy with the way they have turned out. Now, I just need to make the display cars!

 

Here's the decal book from Todd. Inside this binder is a wealth of information Todd has painstakenly put together. If you never saw the real train, you would be able to model it completely and correctly just from what information he has provided. If anyone wants to do this train....this is the only way to go!

 

I've only seen the 1975/1976 Trains decals offered by Todd. Microscale does the 1947 Freedom train decals. You could write Todd at the Accuen site and ask him if he plans on doing those.

 

Here's the two cars that will become the display cars, Kato undecorated 72ft baggage cars.

 

And here's the tools that will hopifully transform them into the display cars. I need to hit Hobby Lobby or the Hobby Shop and get some styrene to make the car sides after I start cutting.

It's easy to get alot done when you don't have to work 12hrs a day.

 

I don't plan on lighting the cars at this time, only because of cost, but I might later.

 

Added more detailing to the ConCor 4449, including BLMA airhoses on the front pilot, headlight electrical line and painted the handrails silver. Still have plans to add flags and jewels/MV lights in the marker lights.

Top details were painted after looking at photos of the top of the 4449.

 

And finally, the tender ladder was painted to match the paint.

 

If Kato does their GS-4 in AFT colors I will probably get that one because of the smoothness of the Kato GS-4, but this one is a really good runner and will work until then. I might keep it anyway because it is such a good one. Time will tell.

 

Yes, I plan on doing the three flats and all the containers and vehicles for the flats.
