Absolutely. Much like high speed cars, high speed trains use only vented disc brakes to dissipate heat and prevent warpage and breakage. On typical freight trains, in an emergency, the drum brakes can get so hot that the brake linings can actually fuse themselves to the drums leading to a derailment. Not something that you would want in passenger applications. Acela also has antiskid technology to prevent locking the wheels. If you are interested in the internals of the Acela and TGV try this site: http://www.trainweb.org/tgvpages/acela.html They have many photos and cross diagrams of both trainsets. Russ
Oh thanx Rush, I know about that website already, It's in my AOL Favorites Folder. I check the website daily. I didn't get a chance to read the entire Acela Page on TGVweb.
