Have CPR AC4400CW units been having troubles latelly. In the last month 16 have been removed from service and are placed on the "Stored Unservicable" list. Whats going on with thse things? I have never seen so many of one unit get on this list so fast. Even the SD40s don't get on the "Unservicable" list that fast, and they are even getting pulled from service!

    A Confused,

    Dane

16-20-30 of them stored unserviceable is chump change compared to the size of the fleet.

Besides......I think a unit that had its cab crushed in would be "stored unservicable" its blatently obvious no one would be using it.

although no major roads ghave come forward yet. EMD has unofically announced that someone has placed a large order of SD89MAC's

While if its CP it would break a contract it wouldnt be the first time such a event has happened, a simular even happened with the SD50 disaster at CSX.

the CPR AC4400CW's have been suffering from siezed TM's PM failures, (In the terms of EFI problems and turbo casing issues. ) Several units have also expernced high voltage issues. and the older units with Hi-AD trucks are having vast issues of supension issues and siezed axles.

I'm not suprised, I guess GE's dont seem to like snow.

I took out the three that were denoted as wreck damaged. The other 16 were just listed there.

The fleet is 265 units I believe (or was there another order of 50 not in this number?). That means if 16 are out of service for things other than "crushed cab" 6% (based at 265) of the fleet is out of service. For an average age of 2.5 years that is pretty pitiful. Not only that shouldn't GE be repairing thses units anyways? I thought they had some sort of contract for all maintance?

With Ogden now in the hands of a contractor, locomotives get priority based on what CP says to do.

    Warranties dont last forever.

Only incident where GE "rushed to the rescue" was with CP 8638 as it was on Holiday Train 2001. GE sponsored the train.

8638 died en route to London, GE techs flew to Toronto after the London and Milton showings.

It must have been alot of egg on GE's face considering 8638 was less than 4 months old...not working, and Holiday Train was turned at the GM Locomotive Plant wye.

10 years, and I thought it was pretty funny that the AC4400CW died too. I would have loved to see the CPR Holiday Train get pulled into Vancouver with a GP35 ;)

The Holiday Train did get pulled by an EMD SD40-2 from New York City to Saratoga, but only because no one wanted to spring for the cab-signal/train control system. And I thought Harris Electronics was part of GE.
