This is the builder's plate for the center-cab Whitcomb I shot at the Galena Mining Museum in Galena, KS last month. Before being donated to the museum, it was used at a plant north of here for many years. It's barely legible, but the plate lists this diesel as a 44DE18. What Whitcomb, you say? This one: An ex-Frisco caboose is behind it. The museum itself represents the history of lead & zinc mining in the area, and is on historic US 66 (also known as Kansas State Highway 66).
Very little, although there are some Frisco and MKT paper artifacts. MOstly, the museum tells the story of lead & zinc mining in the area, the products of which DID ship out by rail. The building that houses the museum is the former MKT depot.
Very cool!! If BN owned one, we'd know what one would look like!! Got a "BN" stencil handy?!?!:teeth:
Actually, I was thinking about painting it black with yellow "cat-whisker" striping, much like the Davenports and GE 44-tonners Frisco had..............
