Here is a great new tool I recently purchased--perfect for applying solvent cement to polystyrene joints with no mess and no marring of the surface of your model. A must have in my book.

I have this very tool, and it is pretty good. You still need to take some care, but it is 1000 times better than the brush he showed. You need to be careful where you hold parts because capillary action can pull it under fingers and leave fingerprints. The flexifile solvent it pretty potent and works pretty fast. I also have tried Tamiya liquid cement and it is a bit more forgiving. Cool stuff.

I use sewing needles that I cut off the tip of the needle eye. The pointy end is then inserted into a wood dowel for a handle. Various size needles yield different amounts of glue.

I use sewing needles like you describe for CA, but not for the water-like consistency of solvent cement.
