    I couldn't nail the headend power being the trrain had came while still on the road an was no where close to get any shots of the power on the head end but I did happen to get the shots of the helpers! Here they are pushing the train to the portal an then making their return trip to do the battle again...

    Notice the brakeman going from the rear loco to the front one to cut the helpers from the train....

    Thanks for sharing the pics, John. I think it always makes for an interesting picture when you're able to catch the crew(s) in action.

    On your railfan excursions (and this is directed to John and anyone else): have you run into any resistance from CSX for taking pics? I've been hesitant to do any railfanning since 9/11.

    I have been railfanning quite a few times since 9/11. I only had one encounter and that was with BNSF Security on Cajon Pass. I was polite, courteous and in a public area, (near Cajon Station). In return the BNSF security was very nice to me and my son.

    When I don't have my son, I make sure I take along a couple of railroad magazines and I throw my model rr club cap in the back of the car.

    Remember, now more than ever you have to use common sense and be safe. If stopped by the police DO NOT cop an attitude. Be friendly, explain what you are doing. Allow them to inspect your camera bag and car if they ask. Depending on the circumstances, even though you don't have too, you might have to give up your film. There are legal arguments, I have read where you don't have to give up your film, but depending on the attitudes of the police etc, you have to decide whether it is worth it to keep you from a ride in the back of a cruiser. You have to be the judge of that.

    That was an extreme scenario, but I have been out quite a few times and only questioned once. I was able to keep my film and got some good information which resulted in a nice day of railfanning.

    My advice to you. Go for it, just be safe and bring along a friend or two if you can. As long as they don't have attitudes ;)

    Thanks for the insight, A.J. I've been thinking about venturing out, but just sticking to the public places (i.e. train stations, overpasses etc). I'm not sure if setting up along some remote portion of the main line would be viewed with more suspicion or not.

    I venture out every chance I get an had a few encounters however, I'm a very well known person in my area so.... I talk to the guys! I know them all by name an even if they see me on the street someplace or in a store we have words so.. They never have given me an grief or anything like that. Besides callin me George, HA being my last names Patton so..... Just to agrivate. But to have any trouble I don't.

    I've even went right into the yard in Cumberland MD, I'm not as well known their but they know the face when they see it so....

    But if you show your equiptment an all you shouldn't have no trouble really. I mean tyour cameras an all.. They respect the fact your more or less saving history for the future.
