How about a Troubled bridge over water instead?? Pics of the Little Rock and Western Fourche River Bridge Photographer unknown. Asked for photographer information. Unfortunately, photos were sent to s friend by unknow individual. He then sent them to me. If anyone MIGHT know the peron behind the photos, PLEASE contact me so I can provide proper credits!!! Charlie/Paul, If this isn't allowable, let me know so I can delete photos from album?? Thanks,
I am excited that I finally have something to contribute to these. All four of these shots are of the same set of bridges crossing the Potomac at Harpers Ferry, WV.
Keith, am I correct in assuming that the "S" bends in the verticals near the water line contributed to the major kink in the track atop the bridge? My question would be...why the heck did the a) engineer, b) conductor, c) section foreman, d) dispatcher, or e) anyone with kniowledge of the bridge's condition allow the train to proceed...or had the engine started across which caused the verticals to kink?
I am assuming that's the case. I'm suspecting that the supports gave way as train started over. And that no-one had any idea that this would happen. Pics were sent to me. Asked about them, and my friend knew nothing about them. When, where, why etc...... Also wondering if train wasn't backing over bridge, cars first when supports gave way. Crew stopping train then and there, not moving in case bridge decided to collapse totally. All guess work. Unless there's a way to contact the railroad in question and see if information can be obtained. I'm only guessing, which can be dangerous in it's own right! I'll see if I can attempt to come up with something.
Sorry for my verry late answer. The bridge is not replaced they have tunneled the trak. Greetings Rob Draaisma From Holland
Hey, do land bridges count? http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=147818 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=147817 I always wondered how much money they save doing it this way as opposed to going around. (assuming they save any at all)
