Being new to the hobby I've decided to start with a simple diorama for my first stage of learning. None of the details are pegged down yet but I did place a small order for a section of code 55 track and some grass and ballast. Not sure what I'm building yet but lets just say i'm practicing. I got my first 3d printer yesterday and was searching the databases for n scale items and came across this 50 foot boxcar. Now I figure every layout needs some boxcars so I decided to print one (not my design). I was quite surprised with the amount of detail and am very happy with the results. Yes I did forget to add one end for the boxcar but I have another printing right now. Now I have something to get me started with painting, lettering and a shot at weathering...which all makes me nervous but I have little invested. We shall see how it goes.
Looks like it turned out pretty nice! These FDM printers have come such a long way from where they were five years ago. I "upgraded" to an Ender 3 back in December and FDM printing has become fun again for me versus a chore. When you get this boxcar assembled and painted up please share the results. I love seeing model RR 3D projects. Enjoy your new toy! Cheers -Mike
Oh, you made me nervous for a minute there. I had to pull the parts out and check the fit. No, it is just a poor job taking the picture. Makes the roof look longer but it is actually the proper length.
