So, anyone have any old LL GP drivetrain parts lying around?

Somehow, while installing a decoder last night, one of the drive springs went a-flyin'

Yep, I'm stubborn and want to get this thing working. Anyone have one of these springs they can spare??? I tried some tubing, but the shafts are misaligned to the point where even tubing causes too much friction.

And yes, the next GP18 will be repowered with a GP20 mech ;)

Have you tried Walthers? Might be a longshot, but probably worth the try.

I've used plastic fuel line / tubeing from the RC flyer side of the LHS. Cut it precisely to the length needed, add a dab of gap filling cyanoacrylate to each end set into place and allow glue to dry till cured.

CAUTION: Do not set the tube in place in such a way that it comes into contact with the motor or gear housing. You don't want to see the mess I made when I inadvertently (which means on purpose) set the tubeing as described. I actually glued the motor in place. And it wouldn't run...imagine that!

It works when properly placed and I had a locomotive give me almost 7 years of service.

The spring is a fairly large item and should be easy to find. When you find it, it will be in the spot you least expected it to be...so start by looking there first. Grin!

Diezmon......the new GP18's have the split frame chassis like the GP20, but will have the correct fueltank. If you're repowering, just use a new GP18. It also is compatable with chopnose applications....you just need to shorten the leads on the front LED. You also might check a few old ink pens.....sometimes the springs in those will work if you shorten them.

yep, exactly what I did.. maybe my tubing is too stiff.. the motor and gear shaft aren't directly aligned, so there's still some stiffness in there.
