Hey guys--two questions--Athearn makes a Baldwin switcher-I think I've seen it as BN 401. My research shows 401 to be a VO-1000, not an S-12 or DS4-4-1000. Did BN have any Baldwins besides the VO-1000? Question #2--Is there any source to find an old Burlington Northern Motive Power Annual (besides a train show)--A friend of mine had one in the mid-70's--it was a fantastic resource. Also, was there a BN Annual produced that included the Frisco engines. Thanks.

    Just checked BN Photo Archive
and it lists BN as having had:

    1 x VO660 #7
    18x VO1000 #401-425 (some gaps)
    1 x DRS-4-4-15 #406
    1 x DRS-6-6-15 #407

All were ex-NP units, and as far as I can see none got painted into BN green & white, they all remained in NP black & yellow. I'd *love* to see a pic if anyone can show otherwise, but I just doubt it happened as most older stuff like that was just patch renumbered & sold in a short-ish time.
I've not seen Athearn catalogue the S12 in BN colours either, is that a recent issue? The only close ones i've see is GN.

Thanks for the info--The Athearn unit was in an old issue of MR (1980). I assumed it was stock, but may have been painted by the owner after all. He may have been just trying to get a unit similar to the real 401, so he either missed the mark totally, or 401 got a BN repaint (but like you said, that doesn't seem likely).

Howdy everyone, just signed up so hope not to be to much a pain, LOL,,,,,,
If your ever question road numbers and the unit there on, these are the best two places to look them up."I think"
I have been buying trains for almost 3 years an a very regular bases "Weekly" and I have found the Athearn Numbers and piant schemes are not always correct,Paint they use is not RR colors and may be of color quite a bit.
Like there SD45 in CB&Q Red & Gray, never one painted in this color for starters.
    Just my .02 worth

    Hiya Larry, and welcome....

If you think the Q SD45 is bad, what about Athearn's Q red & grey painted DD40's! At least the Q had SD45's (briefly) :D
Still it's kinda impressive though! Heheheh! I'm sure if they had bought DD40's then that's just how they would have looked.

    All the best...
