Has anyone replaced the cracked gears in the newer dual motor B-Man DD40 or free wheeled it by removing the idler gears? I have my trucks apart and see that the wheel half's are held together by the cracked gears themselves....can they stay in gauge with them cracked as a free wheeler? Or how about the replacements from Northwest Short Line worth the money & time?

My experience has been that most anything from NWSL is worth the money and time.

Have the same issue with mine!
What Wheel/Gear is necessary for regearing?

Try to contact Southwest Short Lines. They have helped others and friends of mine with replacement parts.

My temperament has been to let them find the bottom side of a trash can and forget the B version of a DD ever existed. The problem here is those fine fold know better then to keep reusing the same failing parts and continue to do so.

I know, grumble, grumble, and grumble some more.

Keith not sure what gears are listed but they are on the website for n-scale DDs. Rick always n-joy your feed back ;-) just seeing if anyone tried the gears, hate to just give up on the DD it is cool to watch it when its running, Like I said I may just push it around as a dummy but not sure of keeping the wheels in gauge.
As a side bar whenever I post to or make up a new thread it will not show up when I log in to "new posts" found this one in my alerts box and others have just gone away ???

    Bill,

I'm no different then you. I have three of them (should of known better) all sitting in their boxes waiting for Kato or Broadway limited to come out with a new chassis/mechanism. So far nothing and they just sit there looking pathetic.

I'm going to go watch TV and pout.

    The best.

Bill, I would second Dave's post, everything I have purchased from NWSL fit the need and was great.

Rick - I too am going to grumble, grumble, grumble right along with you and I am going to pout right along with you. I should have known better when I purchased a new EM-1, that turned out to have driver problems in the rear engine. Max Magliaro fixed that for me and the loco has run very well for a couple of years, however during our recent Fair show, it froze up in the front engine. I have not taken it apart as yet, chicken I guess, but I may find cracked gears ? ? ? I had used this one to make my AC-9 and I purchased a second new one to make another AC-9. Should have known better as it has crank pin and other problems on the rear engine after running approx. 5 hours. Live and learn.. NOT!

Maybe BLI or some decent manufacturer will make an AC-9, in my lifetime, ha,ha.

    Carl

PS: maybe I am hard on these big engines as I also have an IM AC-12 that is totally non operational with rod, pins etc problems. Looks good sitting on the layout.

    Carl,

I have a sulking chair all made up and ready for company.

    Yep, I'd like the company.

    Sigh!

    Rick do we need libations?

The real stupid thing is I also purchased a B-man J class to morph into an SP GS-1 back last winter. Have not been enthused about the prospects. Never learn, but I have now,

Only if the vibrating phone doesn't work. Grin!

Sure, anything that will numb the mind and help us forget this dilemma. LOL

The only problems I've had with the B... J Class and my SP GS from Kato is the traction tires fell off. Hoping, BFS will solve that dilemma. I get tired of having to play Mr. Fix It.

Personally, I would have to say no. Nothing against Northwest Short Line - by all accounts they are a good company with excellent products.

I've got two of the "Spectrum" DD40AX's and looked into getting gears for them and for the cost of the gears for one you can get one of the new DD40AX's, which is an all around much better model.

I don't know how well it would fit under the old shell, but Bachmann sells the new chassis (which runs very well) in their parts store. I considered that, but considering the price difference between that and what I could get a new one for - with the much improved shell - I decided to go with a whole new one instead.

The newest version of the DD40AX is so much better than the old ones, I just can't see putting any money into them.

I'm in full agreement. That's why they sit their looking pathetic. But...I won't buy another B-mann DD 40. Looking for Kato or Broadway to come out with their own DD35 along with the cabless units and the DD 40 versions. However, I'm on the shorts and it isn't likely to happen anytime soon.

Engineer Bill, did you find a workable resolution for your DD's?

Rick I took the trucks apart, cleaned all the grease out & removed the gears and motors, reassembled/reguaged wheels and now I push the DD around with a couple of GP20s, so far so good. As per buying more things we know wont work it is well known this is not a hobby but sickness that has no cure. Speaking of.... have a happy Turkey day all.
