Well another weekend has come to a halt. How much did you accomplish? The weekend was pretty good to me, despite interruptions. Friday I finished the repair of an old custom paint I did years ago. It was an older (first run) Life-Like GP38-2 I had originally painted in Iowa Interstate 10 years ago in Northern IL, just before my move back to Central Illinois. It was then found about 4 years ago and finished by applying decals. I ran it a bit but I finally needed to take it apart and clean it then I stripped the hand rails and re-painted them Friday. I probably won't sell this one, no margin left in all the fixes, so it will go in the shops display case. Between Friday and Saturday, I finally finished the Rock Island GP9 rebuild, #4424. I went ahead and added the BLMA Nathan horn on the long hood and mounted a firecracker antenna per the prototype. The locomotive is a Life-Like with a mix of Life-Like and Atlas parts to properly reproduce this rebuild from Silvas. Unlike most Rock locomotives of this time, this one is not a Frankenstein of parts and colors. It is a fun locomotive to build and will likely spur on a more detailed version later. Once the box art on this one is done, off to the store it goes. Next I worked on a few caboose models for the BN. These will be the caboose one would have seen from the late 1970's to when FRED showed up. Per the prototype, the windows are plated over and once I get to the fun part, will be weathered accordingly. No work on the layout as Sunday was busy with fall activities but I'm sure next week will be different. So how about you? Let us know what you got done. We'll assemble here once again on October the 15th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, stay safe and as always... High Greens!
Weekend went about a expected. Went to the NC State - Notre Dame game Saturday. Played in the outer bands of Hurricane Matthew with 40 mph gusts and cold, whipping rain. Felt more like sleet than rain. Was like watching a football game in a washer machine on cold cycle. In any event, I still managed to get homasote put down (about 45' total), get 2 curved switches formed in the stuff, and got it pained w/ a coat of latex. Its fun having a layout again w/ plenty of stuff to do. What I love most about this hobby.
Well, the weekend went OK. Changed the oil and filter in the wife's car. Then - I got a little done on the layout. Saturday afternoon - I started prep work for the roads in Saticoy. Repositioned another road along with a gas/service station and fire station. and - I painted the asphalt lot for my PMT terminal. Sunday - (Got messed up since the NASCAR race was postponed). But, I got new bases made for the fire station and PMT service garage (And - painted). Put interior walls into the fire station. And - got to work on the sidewalk for downtown Oxnard. In the next week or two - I will be pouring a new road. (About 12 actual feet worth). Hope ya'll had a great and safe weekend, Wolf
Got a little closer to finished with this D&RGW SD45 I been working on for a few weeks. It started as D&RGW5319 an Athearn RTR loco with only the most basic of details added. Here it is with the cab numbers removed. I decided on 5323 for the number. Added the details like cut bars, mu hoses, mu cables, pilot plow, eye bolts, extra dyn vent used on DRGW sd45's, air dryer with some very basic piping on the air reservoirs. Also changed the dynamic fans as well as the #3 cooling fan to match the rooftop photo I had run across. Now to mask the windows apply dullcoat, a heavy dose of weathering, and put it into service. Thanks for looking.
Still the weekend for me , no school! Well I did manage to tinker with static grass, all I used was woodland senics grass and a ballon
