I like mine a lot. Smooth operation. DCC works fine on my PowerCab system. Good detail. I'm a happy camper.
Not 'recent purchases', but I did want to add how much fun one could have these Kato sets when time and space limit you. Just a few weeks ago I pulled out my V11, V12, & V13 sets and put together a pretty respectable double-track pike that stayed up for a couple of weeks.
Just got 5 Deluxe Innovations SP smooth side woodchip cars. Been trying to get these for a while since they are long gone. Intermountain is never going to produce this car (about 2 years since the announcement). I just want more
Recently received a set of Lark Models kits. Superior Seafood and Public Works Department. Started working on them. But have a roof question. Separate thread there though!
Only criticism I have for the S4 is the decoder is loud, and the contact between truck pickups and the frame aren't that reliable.

I just purchased a Rapido FL9 with sound. Rapido did an outstanding job with this diesel. Staying cool and having fun with it...... Shades
I keep looking at these models in the model railroading publications. I often feel the urge to buy it... yet I normally have no real use for this model since I am a western N Scale modeler. But... then I catch myself recalling how I bought Pennsy Broadway Limited, GG-1' and a few other odds and ends from the eastern seaboard.
Sometimes the universe opens a door every time it closes one. I recently missed out on a chance to get 2 Rapido coaches to help complete one train that I'm working towards only to have 2 Con-Cor Budd cars appear which allowed me to take a major step towards another one I'm working towards.
Joe: I'm also a western N scale modeler. Yet I've purchased the latest Pennsylvania N scale steamers as well as heavyweight passenger cars and the Broadway Limited to go along with the PRR GG-1's that I also have on the locomotive roster. I also have several BLI Pennsylvania E-7's. The Rapido Fl9 is a beautiful diesel and will pull the 12 Rapido Osgood Bradley lightweight passenger cars(pullman green and Hunter green) which are magnificently built and detailed by Rapido. When I modeled in HO scale many years ago, I had a large fleet of the Osgood Bradley Lightweight 10-Window Coaches with No Skirts, New Haven (1955-1968, McGinnis Scheme). These passenger cars were great models in HO scale and I was always fond of this design. Staying cool and having fun with it...... Shades
I also recently purchase seven Wheels of Time SP 60' coaches with wide windows. Wheels of Time did a fantastic job in designing and detailing these coaches as well. Invested a few thousand finishing my new layout space, which was previously unfinished storage, to which we added insulation, wallboard, and paint, using a spray foam company, and getting some help from a handyman we use. Ouch, foam was $1700, handyman hours devoted to room prep about the same. Kept cost down by reusing cabinets from old layout for support, and also had lots of good plywood left over. Got my Atlas C55 flex track last week. Am using turnouts salvaged from old layout. Went to LHS for curve pieces and crossings to use, and use first in full size track plan drawing. Stopped at one LHS, where proprietor usually grumpy. He is old and in a wheelchair, and I bought a Walthers structure that I know I will need in the next year or so, but mostly to reward him for actually being in a good mood yesterday. Also got some MT weathered cars I really don't need, but like. Will be selling more rolling stock off since this is a smaller layout, so not much need to acquire more.
I generally don't have too many Great Northern locomotives. That railroad has been quite under-represented in the 'western road name' heavy collection I have. I've just closed the gap some this past week due to a very attractive sale from a 'not to be named' e-tailer. I got 2 A/B sets of KATO Great Northern F7 freight units for $90 buck per set ($45 per loco)... not too shabby. The same e-tailer then ran another special on Intermountain F3 units... and I got 3 of them for $63 a piece. Not as great as the Kato deal... but about 47% below MSRP.
Picked up another E-R Models bay window caboose over on that Internet Auction Community. It's the New York Central jade green "road to the future" scheme. I'm trying to get either a physical example or a good photo of each of the E-R Models releases since the tooling for these cars had previously been part of the Atlas First Generation.

Hmmm... I wonder if the release of the Great Northern and Northern Pacific freight units is a way for Kato to measure the interest in these road names before committing to making an Empire Builder passenger set or a North Coast Limited passenger set????
I picked up some of the last vestige of the once late great BLMA Models, the ATSF Beer cars. I also saw the new release of Atlas 89 foot BLMA flat cars. They looked great until I saw the horrifying accumate couplers! They did not come home with me.
