ANOTHER GREAT ISSUE! Got mine Wednesday. LONG TIME SUBSCRIBER. CD's are a great. You can print plans (switch design templates) from them. NEVER run out of templates.
Very much enjoyed Rick Balassaitis' story on the PRSL. A fine map, great photos and excellent writing -- just perfect. As an aside, the spelling of "vice" to describe a clamping tool prevails in N-Scale Magazine. In the U.S., the tool is a vise, while vice is linked to immoral behavior. Elsewhere in the world it seems that vice is used for the tool and immoral behavior. Just a bit of trivia I thought was interesting.
When my wife and were younger we always had a difficult time trying to decide to get our parents for the holidays. Inevitably my father would get a shirt. After he passed on we found shirts from about a dozen Christmases still in their original plastic wrappings. He never wore them. To preclude a repeat I tell my wife to tell the kids to get me a subscription to one of the model magazines. I even save the order form for them. N Scale Magazine is one of them. Its like killing two birds with one stone. I get a gift I will use and not have to pay for while the kids don't have to worry about what to get Pappy. A bonus is that I get a present every month or two. For anyone out there, Christmas is coming up so time to drop the hint that you want a magazine subscription. You'll probably save your kids a lot of consternation wondering what to get the old fart for Christmas.
I was able to get my hands on 2 older issues. As I expected...I could barely read them. These old eyes...even with reading glasses...tire to fast. I am giving serious consideration to the CD's. At least that way I can increase the font enough to enjoy them.
My eyes aren't what they were either. Years ago, many magazines reduced their font size to save on paper expense and it led me to quit buying most. I've since found that the actual font matters greatly. Kalmbach's Classic Trains Magazine has picked an excellent one and it appears to my eyes that it's perhaps a bit larger as well. I subscribe to Classic Trains and enjoy the magazine very much.
Thank you. The railroad historical societies generously provided all the photos. I hope you enjoy the two follow-up articles on my layout. Rick
I'm looking forward to reading them! With knowledge of the prototype such as you provide, we build our pikes with an eye to realism and avoid building "models of models".
I do the "give me a subscription" Xmas thing, too, including N Scale. Loved the issue, in particular, the brick painting was great. While we have seen similar articles, this one really seemed to spell it out for me, to the point I will try the detail. And, his results sure looked like brick on old roundhouses, buildings, etc. that I have seen.
Received the magazine, this week. Really liked the article on brick painting. Still have not finished reading the magazine yet as have lots of other things to do.
I Also get Classic Trains. Some great article and photo ideas from the era I model. Got my N Scale Mag. VERY GOOD. Thanks Pamala and Walt!!!!!!! \
