I got a brass WP caboose for my birthday, it's beautiful, but it's a little tarnished. Do you think I should get it painted, I'm not even thinking of doing it myself, or clean it up and put a wax or something on it? First thought is to have it painted, but should I?

An interesting question. Do you plan on using it? Or just want a display item? Or?

If the tarnish is the only thing that bothers you; then use Brasso and a soft cloth to clean that up. I've painted one and left another clean Brass. But it's all about a personal preference. It's your RR run it as you see fit.;)

I'm going to run it, it's too cool to put on a shelf. I don't know what to budget for paint but I'm starting to look for someone to do it.

Might cost a bit more than plastic, to properly prep that brass for paint. But such models are really nice. I have owned a few in other railroads.

I've often wondered if using one of those tarnish-removing dips would be OK to use. Has anyone tried that?

I've used them quite a bit over the years. Being Military for over twenty years we use them quite a bit, and since having experience with them in that capacity it was easy to start using them on MMR things and I've had the same satisfying results on the Brass models. No Worries. Barso is the one I've always used

I say leave it alone. Get a display case for it.

JimJ, You think I should "polish" it, or just leave it as is?

I'll try, it'll take me a few minutes to round up the technology.

I would leave it alone and display it in my living room, but that's just my opinion. I don't have any brass models and I would regard it as a piece of art. Many others would prefer to paint it and use it.

File size? File format? Were you trying to attach it to your post? Upload to RailImages?

Ah. OK. That's outside of our control. We've seen problems previously, with linking something from Google. Sometimes it works, often it won't. Many sites also have set up "hot link" protection, you their photos canot be displayed outside their own pages. You either get a no go message, or a redirect link to their site. The old excuse often was band width use, which is quite humorous. Remotely viewed or on site, a 500kb image uses 500kb.

No, I think the problem is here with me, there's a filter to prevent certain things from inadvertently (curious kids), and on purpose (irresponsible adults), happening. One of them is uploading images to e-mails and web sites. In a few days I'll have my own computer again and will be able to share pics.

I say, PAINT IT! If you're going to run it, it should be painted and weathered.
