Glad to see they have released that wonderfull old connie with sound, this is the loco in my opinion that changed the game for bachmann and is as good as kato.now if they would re release their heavy mountain and do an update on there norther it would be a perfect world for me and i am sure many others,

But it is the same old connie. The older one was not a difficult locomotive to add DCC and sound (and get a better end product). From what I can see they are using the same generic boiler shell that people had a hard time trying to figure out what prototype it followed and that ended up with that it followed no prototype (although a few were close). In addition Bachmann sold a ton of the older connies (I got six myself) so the field is crowded already.

Maybe there will be more announcements. I hope so.

i concur with your statement ,but at 76 and with 2 eye implants ,i just am not able to do the necessary steps &solder like i did many yrs ago,so some off us welcome the additional sound added to these locos .that is if you are interested in sound on your layout.as for further announcements from Bachmann ,i think not. if you check their website under NMRA announcements you will see every thing there.i real like for their HO pacific renderings of different headlight positions for different roads.especially their Grand trunk offering.hopefully we will see some of this trickle down to their n scale offerings later on. regards&later KEWATIN

Not an enthusiastic response thus far. Nothing like the response to the K4 last year. I still say this was a bad decision by Bachmann.

The issue that I have is the costs. The PS2 is more expensive than a MTL car...

I'd much rather they re run the Heavy Mtn . I have a DCC 2-8-0 that I'll be sending out for sound eventually , I'd rather have a better decoder than their SoundValue decoder .

I've installed ESU Lok-Sound Select micro decoders in five original Spectrum 2-8-0's with Zimo sugar cube speakers. The sound is fantastic.

    Staying cool and having fun.....:cool::cool:

I agree. The way prices are going nowdays, it seems like it would be a good idea to provide the loco as DC, with "DCC ready" and "Sound ready" configuration such that those who want to add a decoder can simply plug one in, perhaps changing a jumper when they do so, and to add sound you only need to add a speaker and perhaps wire or plug it into your decoder of choice. Maybe a little more expensive for the DC guys, but not as bad as today. And, cheaper for the DCC and sound guys who do not like a particular vendor's decoder and would need to change it. I would like to standardize to one brand of decoder so that I do not need to remember all of the work-arounds and vendor-specific procedures to work with lots of different types. But, I don't want to limit myself to one vendor's models just to standardize on a decoder vendor.

Been saying the exact same thing for years. Posted it several years ago. Got slapped around for even suggesting the idea. "Its alright" I told myself...people will see the light...soon. ;)

I have been advocating this for years to no avail. Only thing was that, at the time, my issue was with trucks and couplers . MT couplers and trucks have been the defacto standard of N Scale for decades. Yet we still have manufacturers coming out with their own trucks and couplers. Why burden the modeler with extra cost? Instead put out a piece of rolling stock sans trucks and couplers and let the modeler decide if they want MT, Rapido, McHenry, Unimate, Accumate or whatever coupler. Same for trucks and wheelsets.

The Bachmann GG1 is available as DC or DCC w/sound so there you go. Asking a company to have three configurations (DCC w/o sound) of the same model isn't reasonable for them, the distributors or the hobby shops to have to deal with.

As for the 2-8-0, there's no reason for Bachmann to produce a DC model because, as many have pointed out, these are available through e-bay for much cheaper than new.

Its NOT 3 configurations. DC to DCC is as simple as a drop in decoder...as its been that way for years. DC to sound could be just as simple as a drop in sound decoder with a speaker. People just want to make it sound like its rocket science...and its NOT ! Its NOT all about sound or DCC for everyone.

I dont profess to know a thing about the workings of steamers. But from years of readings dont most all steamers have the electronics in the tender ? Seems like an easy 'box' area to work DC...DCC...DCC Sound in. Maybe I am wrong but maybe I am right. ;)

Bmann is weirdly inconsistent with DCC/sound lately. The GG1 is offered with and without, but the K4s isn't? Silly. If they'd offered a plain DC K4s I'd have bought all four.

It's nice to see the Connies come back, anyway. I might pick up one or two and take advantage of the lovely H8/9/10 shell that's on Shapeways now. I've been hesitant to do anything to the two I've got because I had something else in mind for them. More steam; not going to complain. I also hope Bmann re-runs the Mountains though, and I'd still like them to do a proper Spectrum upgrade of the 0-6-0. Someday, I guess.

Not to mention the $400 MSRP for that new release of the 2-8-0 (or the GG1 w/DCC+sound).
When did N scale loco prices start rivaling those of a decent television?

Televisions have sound now? WOW, what will they think of next? Maybe they will move around. (I just could not resist, honest)

Yep, not any room in the locomotive unless you toss out the motor or the weight.

:( So, this is the future? DCC locos will disappear? You can only buy DC or DCC/sound? I am rather clumsy and really don't like installing decoders. But now I am forced to buy a DC loco and a seperate decoder and install that thing (including all the cursing and shouting) or buy a loco with sound?! I don't want sound: it is more expensive, I also need to buy a more expensive DCC set, and I don't want all those screaming engines in my room.... First Rapido, now Bachmann....
