I built this in a 12' X 50' house trailer. Only thing I left in the trailer was the furnace for heat. This was the 2nd MRR trailer I built. It was kinda neat as it moved with us. Got it for free, as it turned out I overpaid. I ended up building 2 of these and sold them both, the first one ended up in a landfill somewhere. The second one (pictured) is still in use by Matt Darling here in GJ, you can see it pictured in the last few years of Walthers wish books, in the Majic of MRRing sections. Dont really know how most of these pics ended up in BW, But they show some of the first trains operated on the MRR. I think this was around 1992-3. Matt has taken this MRR to new levels and he has op sessions all the time. The last pic shows it leaving my place and headed to it new home with Matt in 2003 I think. Thanks for looking.
I spy a Burlington Northern mug, makes any beverage taste better Great idea for a layout, the idea of just hooking it up and moving it with you is very appealing to me as I have just had to trash my layout because of a house move.
Thanks guys. It was an interesting venture for sure.. I moved 2 times with it and never had as much as a crack in the scenery lol. I even had an old plastic steamer that was left on the mrr just used masking tape to hold it down and it wasn't even derailed we only moved about 60 miles tho. I have more pics somewhere I think video too. My picture filing system is non existent. Wonder what I had in that BN mug... Thanks Tom Holley
I remember that trailer! Except when I last visited, you had beaucoup Frisco and QAP power. Good to know the trailer has a new home.
It was sitting across from our house in a vacant field, they guy gave it to me LOL. All I did was pull it across the street ripped all the walls out, repair some outside wall damage and start building a MRR. Designed the thing around the heater.
I've been interested in doing something like this for years. However, the city codes here might make things a bit dicey for me. Anyone considering one of these should also ask the neighbors - some might not take kindly to a rat-trap blocking their window views. You got lucky that you got the unit for free and only had to move it across the street. Usually, the biggest expense is actually getting a trailer from A to B. Trailers are generally pretty cheap, and even modern units (double-wides with HVAC) can be had for a song. The trick is to find one that has a sound shell and/or roof and a dealer/seller that can help you move it to your property.
Yep no neighbors that close for an issue and we never had a mouse/rat problem, I think due to lack of edible things for them to consume LOL. It was classified as a portable storage shed (not live-able dwelling) never had any issues. Yep I got lucky.
Wowwa, now that's nice. Looks like my tin can of a home. I moved into my box.... from a two bedroom house to a one bedroom trailer. I officially became White Trailer Trash at that point. No storage, no room for much more then my kitchen, a open front room, bathroom and bedroom. No space left for me to enjoy it as a railroad empire. But that's enough about me now how about you?
