Does anyone have information on a 3 truck Heisler engine, which is or was on display behind their replica depot at Elbe? Lettered for a "Silver Creek Logging Company", but no engine number was seen. I cannot find reference to this locomotive anywhere. There is or was such an operation south of Coos Bay, Oregon. I am wondering if this was somehow related, engine number, and...?
THis locomotive boxcab? I got these photos when my Gramps and I were coming home from our visit to the NP Museum in Toppenish, Wa.
Yes. That is the one. I have not been able to find any heritage. I searched their web site, but if it is listed, I somehow overlooked that information.
I have crawled around that Heisler, and the shaft to the third truck has been removed. I do not know the heritage, but in the cobwebs of my mind I don't think it ever operated for a "Silver Creek Logging Company. " I'll see what I can find out.
Thanks, Jim. I am kind of surprised it isn't even listed somewhere on their roster. Otherwise, why is it on the property?
Actually it's part of their "signage" advertising the train trips out of Elbe. I haven't had time to search for heritage.
This Heisler was built as Blue Jay Lumber Co. 10 (sometime prior to 1919) and was later sold to Pickering Lumber Co. in 1926 and went through the hands of various preservation groups starting in 1958 and ended up on the Mt. Rainier in 1982. It was the first successful three truck Heisler and it never ran for a Silver Creek Logging Co..
Wow. Where did you find this data? I have looked on any Heisler page I could find, without success. Any ideas of the number when on Pickering?
It retained the number 10. I found it all on the site steamlocomotive.info, it is a giant database of preserved locos all over the world.
While at it, I was looking for a Pickering Lumber roster, and did not locate one. Just some partial data. I am surprised. PLCo was well known and had fans.
An old thread I ran across while researching something else but... I have a Pickering roster at http://www.trainweb.org/foothill/txtrosp-q-r.html . Just scroll down till ya find it. And as for the original question, I am building a proper MSRS roster as I type this, hence the research.
Okay, a little late for the original question but my new Mt Rainier Scenic Ry roster is online. http://www.trainweb.org/rosters/MRSR.html Enjoy.
For the 70, there was at least one if not two private owners between its Rayonier days and becoming MRSR.
