Got a nice deal here on TB for a BN SD40-2 with the new mechanism. Then found a great deal on a BNSF SD40-2 shell and it pops right on. My sons have been running it around the layout and loving it.
Saturday brought a box from Alan Curtis/N Scale Kits. Purchased 5 ConCor Autorack conversion kits. Now, to find the courage to make that first cut!! Looks fairly simple and straight forward. Only 10 more to do, at a later time then!
Over the last month or two I have picked up quite a few pieces from the board members here. Most recently, Kiz for about 80 cars. Assorted 40' box cars, 33T and 90T hoppers, and a number of flats, mostly Microtrains and a few Atlas. From John Moore, about fifteen locomotives. Mostly Alco FA and FB but also two U25's, three GP-7's, and a Light Mountain. All excellent runners, even the Light Mountain which had potential need for traction work per Spookshow. Then from Boxcab, 8-9 Deluxe Innovations boxcars. Then about twenty Micro-Trains cars, 33T hoppers and a few drop flats, from Nscalestation. Then three Alco's, one each RS-1, 2, and 3 from Upstate Gator. All of these transactions have been great experiences both in the quality of the equipment (new or like new) as well as the smoothness of the transactions and that's a credit to the caliber of folks on the board. There is some very nice equipment and very good values in that swap meet section. Could still use a PA-B set, especially Pennsylvania to pull some Pennsylvania passengers but also other eastern roads (D&H?) . Also an Alco switcher or three. Or anything else Alco. (My father worked for Alco back in the late forties to mid fifties, especially on the development of the 244 engine. Growing up with a lot of good stories and more than a few visits to maintenance shops where my father knew folks, I've wound up with a thing for anything Alco.
I'm so glad the seven of those 5,000th GEVOs sold so quickly. I was on the fence and then my son said "eh, it's just like our other ones but with a couple extra decals". I needed it like I need a hole in my head but like the ES44 hybrid it'll more than likely never be made again so might as well get it.
Just received the AFT "Showcase Car" from Lowell Smith. Me and GF are loving the AFT !!! (She claims it as "her train". HA !!!) Almost too bad it's just about done.
Couldn't let that error stand. Don't know how that slipped from my fingertips but that's an unforgivable sin that would have my father rolling over in his grave. He was quite proud of his work on the 251 and was quick to point out some design lessons but especially management lessons from the 244. That's also how it is I was born in Syracuse as he was working out of the Auburn plant. Many good and interesting stories as well as lessons that remained with me throughout my professional life.
