They've already done some Genesee & Wyoming family railroads, Fox River Valley, and some shortline in New Jersey that I'm guessing is very close to Atlas headquarters. I'm guessing there are a few more in there that I didn't catch, either. We're not talking about specific shortlines being factory painted. We're talking about the generic corporate paint schemes that are used by many shortlines and regionals under the same ownership.
Thanks BrianS. The red and gray former RailTex scheme is found throughout the 40+ shortlines owned by RailAmerica, and can be seen from coast to coast, and Canada as well. GP38's and GP40's I would think would sell well in this scheme. The Fox River Valley scheme on a SD24 was very prototype specific, whereas a red and gray RailAmerica GP38 would be fairly generic, and would have a widespread appeal, IMO. Especially since RA seems to move engines from one line to another, based on needs of specific railroads, an MNA engine may be found in Oregon, or a CORP engine in Texas.
Dave, The last few times I saw Tee Pee Willie operating they had the horrible ex-CN GP40-2W units. Do they have any "normal" GP20s left or is all from Cannuckistan now?
"CANNUCKISTAN" , what does that mean!!!! Sure hope that the comment is meant in jest. Considering the state of current international tensions this would seem to be an insensitive reference. No more to say wrong place Maybe I just got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning if so my apologies to all!!! [ February 04, 2006, 09:49 AM: Message edited by: okane ]
Correct me if I´m wrong but if I recall correctly, railway equipment that does not belong to a specific railroad (read - leasing companies) has to have an "X" as the last letter of the reporting marks.
resurect topic I love this topic, and as an East coast guy I also love lease units, especially with all the time I spend around New england, well here is one I did today, converting an old Kato SD40 I had in CP Rail pacman scheme that was not getting used due to my modern layout where an SD40-2 is about the oldest thing on my CP roster, I removed the multimark and CP Rail lettering and used a Highball graphics decal to put on the "HLCX" lettering and than heavily weathered it. Thought it was time to bring back and update this topic! my best, Jan
I was going to say Scott stole my idea on the CEFX SD40-2 Snoot, but then I looked at the date and realized he beat me by about 18 months...... Here's a few I've done over the past few months. Brian
I L-O-V-E me some lease locos. I've got some that I've done in GATX and I have both the blue and maroon Kato CEFX units. I've wanted one of the silver and green FRUX locos for a while as well, but haven't got the time to paint one up. I saw the two Atlas SD60 HLCX locos at the Temple show last week and almost bought one of each. I don't think any manufacturer can go wrong with doing a lease scheme. Bring 'em on!
LTEX Here is the link to my railimages album to an LTEX former SP tunnel motor I also did (hope this works)
I found this one on locophotos.com http://www.locophotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=59507 http://www.locophotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=62498
I was wondering if LTEX was a real company. I did a google search and found this, just like your model, jsoflo. BTW, nice pictures on RailImages, too, jsoflo. I was just looking at them.
Thanks Flash, I certainly appreciate it! As for the LTEX, yes they're real, as I live around the FEC I see a lot of FEC trains almost every day and for much of last year I would see LTEX SD45T-2's in the mix which led me to a similar search you must have performed to find out what they were! The unit I did is painted to match one of the former FEC leased units with the same road number, only difference is mine is an SD40T-2. A lot of inspiration on trainboard, keep em' coming, and thanks! Jan
