Hi there, I've been model railroading for many uears. However I'm new this DCC thing. I have a loco from Bachmann that is DCC ready but does not have either decoder sound, lighting or speed control. Where can I get the sound decoder? I located the lighting and speed one. I am planning on purchasing the DCC controller here in the next month or so. Please any help with the sound decoder is much appreciated. Thank you so much
What scale? What locomotive do you have? It should have a plug and play type of socket. A digitrax sdxs166d is a sound decoder that will also control the locomotive. No need for separate decoders. The digitrax website also has a neat tool to help you choose the decoder that will fit the engine. The DCC system is up to you. Comparing many are like comparing apples to oranges. Some on the very cheap side of things and others that can do a lot. Research all the systems and go from there. I use the digitrax system. They have three starter systems. The zephyr extra, super empire builder extra, super chief extra. The zephyr is a great starter set. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Which scale? Which loco? Are you sure there is not decoder in the loco? Maybe DCC ready. More info in a post would be helpful. Here is a link about DCC and look though all his links in that link. He has lots of info. Don't buy to quickly. There are Gotchas in DCC. That will become apparent as you gain more experience. http://mrdccu.com/ This fellow is very active in some DCC forums and the MRH forum about various aspects of DCC. There is also a Bachmann forum with company reps and many users of Bachmann products, plus forums for different scales, diagrams, parts ordering, CV list, etc. Google bachmann forums. it should be the first link. Stay away from the Bachmann EZ Command. Cheap enough on ebay but very basic. You cannot program CV's, only control the loco, operate sounds on a sound loco and only program the loco number. Good enough for some though. I use the NCE Power Cab. Good enough for three sound locos and maybe five non sound locos. Good luck. DCC is really great. Wait until you see the Smart phone or iPad way of controlling locos. Rich
Ok that loco has an 8 pin socket. Easy to find a decoder that will run it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
If you're looking to save some money, you might look into the open-source DCC base station discussed in this thread.... http://www.trainboard.com/highball/...-open-source-dcc-station-and-interface.84800/ Steve S
Take a look at the sound track tsunami decoder TSU1000 part number 826101. This I think will be what you want. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Looks like the 2-8-0. Non sound, a Digitrax DZ126PS. Plugs right in. I use the little older DZ125PS in HO. Good for one amp. If you want SoundTraxx sound. Might be a challenge if little experience. http://www.soundtraxx.com/documents/appnotes/bachmann280.pdf TCS sound. http://www.tcsdcc.com/Customer_Cont.../2-8-0 Consolidation/Consolidation_2-8-0.html What ever decoder you get, clip the caps. Marked by a C prefix. Don't worry about the two inductors. They are a moot point with no caps. They will be two coils or look look like green resistors. Marked with a L prefix. Rich
