Because of the segregation laws in Texas in the early 1900s the Santa Fe was required to provide separate accommodations for its Black customers. In 1924 the ATSF ordered new heavyweight cars from Pullman to replace older cars in use at that time. After the demise of the Jim Crow laws in the mid 1950s the cars were converted to Chair Smoker cars. This model was built using etched sides from M&R laminated to an old Rivarossi N scale car that was shortened slightly.
I love the B&W, creates a beautiful effect. Nothing wrong putting a speed bump between 5 mph trestles to keep branch line hot rods within the rules.
Thanks fellows. What is funny, well maybe not, is that this was originally a Z scale layout. This photo is N of course, and I never noticed the bump while this was Z scale. After I finished laying track in N I still couldn't see the bump. Only when this photo was printed did I see the bump! Be careful what you photograph. Jim
Are you sure that's actually a bump? It looks so to me at first look, but looking closer it looks like it might be an optical illusion created by the camera angle and possibly a (horizontal) curve in the track right about where the first boxcar is?

Yeah more, more, more. Maybe this will break the log jam. This is a modified HO "Maywood" depot that was altered to resemble the old Houston & Texas Central depot in Hempstead, Texas.
Well, Walthers released a limited edition of the Russel Plow. I bought one of the kits, a long time ago, and planned on turning it into the Grande Gold version, and here they released it in that version too! First shot is with the 1553 and caboose 01449 from back in the days of steam...and then the Gold version with SD45 5317
So the tank car was gravity emptied? I'm curious to see how you modeled the sump and or pumping facility?

Before participating in the IPD mania of the late 70's the Atlanta & Saint Andrews Bay had some second hand 40' Boxcars, this was an IMRC 1937 AAR Mod. car kit that was painted with Floquil Dark Green Paint and lettered with Herald King Decals.
