Ok I have 7 UP5's. The first six I installed perfectly no glitches. Those were done over a year or more ago. Recently I pulled the last one out and installed it. Today I wired it up same as the others. Everything works but one small thing. The track status orange/red LED. It doesn't light. I started to play with it and it acted as if the A terminal wire to track was loose. Nope. I found if I touched the A terminal whether with the wire or not it would then light up. Any ideas what is going on?

So you're saying that just putting your finger on it, it would light up? Hmmm.....
Try swapping the 7th one out with one of your other 6 and see if you get the same problem.

I will give it a try and see what happens.

Is the UP5 installed properly? Many a UP5 have been inadvertently installed with the track power screws to the front because they fit perfectly. second thing to check is your loconet cable.

Used the LT1 and cable is fine. Also it is installed correctly. LED to the front and power wire to
    The back.

Ok update. I swapped out another UP5 and I get the same issue. The one that I used first I put in another spot and it is working fine. Here is how I have it wired. It is only the red wire that is having the issue. I used these clips to attach the bus wires from the main layout to the carts. Here you see the UP5 unlit with the track power on. When I touch the red wire on terminal A it lights up. When I unplug the loco net cable it only lights dimly when I touch it.

Problem solved. It was this connection right here. Loose wire coming from the layout side. [IMG]

The two rear screws are for track popwer. They should be connected to rail A and Rail B from booster or track. The center solder dot is for a DC+ connection from an auxiliary DC power supply. It is directly connected to the center pin of the coax jack. Negative connection for that solder dot hook up is via the loconet cable pins 2 and 5. If no loconet cable, there is no complete circuit from that center solder dot.

However there are other ways to complete the negative circuit on a UP5. The outside of the coax jack is negative and both front screws of UP5 ara also negative. That dim red color led may indicate that without the loconet cable, the circuit is being completed through one of the rear screws half of the time. That led should not light unless track power is connected to the rear terminals. Connecting power to the center dot or the coax jack should not light the track power led. Each of the various auxiliary power connectors is diode protected from the others. If this does not work, then only thing left is to check your wiring connections.

I noticed Doug Stuard posted the same question as I earlier on the Digitrax Yahoo list about front and rear screws. He might pop in here as well.

Martin it was a loose bus wire in a connector that was the cause. I have power running from a wall wart plugged into a UR91 and then daisy chained from there, hence the red wire coming out of the rear dot. My bus wires are red for rail A and white for rail B. Since I like having the track status LED hooked up for helping with diagnosing track problems, it did as it was supposed to do. Also you can see from the very last photo posted the connectors that i used. Downside to them is all you do is slide the wire in. No crimping.
