These items of N scale's morbid past should be banished from earth. They are a stigma that keeps potential hobbyist away.
They do not do anything to help move the hobby forward or help N scale's reputation. I prefer to not even give this stuff away.
The damage it would do for the recipient is to drive them away from the hobby... not just N scale.

...at least it doesn't say 'vintage' (like that makes it worth something).

I agree and have stated this in the past, in this and other topics. Someone new seeing such prices and then acquiring such items could quickly be lost to another scale or even the hobby.

This has probably been brought up before and probably is less humorous when considering the dollar loss for legitimate items. I believe these are knock -off castings of GHQ and other manufacturers: http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-Lar...d76ba53&pid=100033&rk=2&rkt=4&sd=231746423692

I guess the humorous part is the poor quality and perhaps the seller could get in trouble. I reported one of these guys once but I believe they came back under a different name...

There seems to be a bunch of this happening. Using CMW and others. I don't quite understand how they get away with it.

You should have held on to them, apparently they are worth quite a bit in Canada.

I'm not going to lie, I really get into the vintage stuff from a historical perspective. I like the old Mehano stuff because it is normally such garbage but early N scalers often worked miracles sewing purses from these sow's ears, so to speak. I view the original generations of N scale equipment like old military vehicles in museums; only the military vehicles, more often than not, adequately fulfilled their roles when new despite being obsolete now. These wide body Bachmann GP40s are strange beasts at best and I am surprised that a seller wouldn't first look on eBay's "sold" listings to get an idea of street value before pricing this one so high... but again, it only takes one sucker.

Speaking about wishing I'd kept something, and seeing mention of the Bachmann GP40.... My very first N scale was a Bachmann set (BNRR) of GP40 and cars in a plastic case. (I believe it came inside a decorated cardboard sleeve?) Purely for sentimental reasons. Oh well.

I had to look closely. At first glance, they looked just like a bunch of blobs.
