Now here's a pleasant surprise that may bode well for the future of N scale:

The new E-R Models "Sharks" were built in China by

    Bachmann

I hope they run well... Lets just say I have owned some Bachmann stuff before, including a new 0-6-0 steamer, which doesn't run well at all. I do think that the new N steamer looks good (2-8-0) hopefully it will be in the same class as their HO consolidation when it is released..

Hi Don, I'm wondering where you saw this info. I can't seem to find any site that states that these are being made by Bachmann.

I'm not sure that I would admit it if I were ER Models [IMG]

As an authorized dealer for E-R Model Importers we personally called Al Muniz who is the owner of the company. We tried to verify your information. We could not. We would also love to know where you got this information because it's incorrect.

I agree that they were not built by Bachmann, but I am sure that there are not that many Chinese companies making N-scale stuff and there would be a good chance that the same company that Bachmann does business with is doing business for E-R models. Of course this is all just conjecture on my behalf based upon logic and I have not even touched one of these new models yet.
In defense of Bachmann though, my F-units do run pretty well as do my c-44 9w's.

My posting was meant as a compliment to Bachmann, not as a put-down

My information came from a well-known N dealer.
I have asked him to confirm the information and will post his reply here ASAP.

    Don:

It doesn't matter what the dealer said. I am dealer too and I personally called the owner of E-R Models on this. I don't think you can get any more accurate information than from the guy who made them. Come on now, time to admit you jumped the gun here buddy. [IMG]

Wow! Maybe Don did jump the gun. He has, in the past posted some very accurate information. Maybe he made a mistake on this one. I can understand that. It's a human quality. I think most people would understand. He stated he would recheck his information and post it and I would expect that he would do so. As far as demanding that he admit to jumping the gun why not wait for his next post? Maybe you too are guilty of 'jumping the gun'?

I am now very curious - Atlas, Concor, Lifelike, Bachmann and now E-R are building in China- it would be interesting to find out who and where - wouldn't it be a hoot if they all were made at the same place? How many model train makers could there be in China?

I thought the Sharks were supposed to be made in Europe by Roco.

This was exactly my point. Usually various parts are procured from different sources but may all be assembled under the same roof. Obviously though, some locos run better than other brands but that can be just result of spending a buck or two more to incorporate the same basic parts into a different design that may work better. For those shrugging their shoulders, car manufacturers do this all the time and give us the difference between say a cadillac and a chevy impala. Many of the mechanicals are the same but obviously the caddy has that extra touch of class (for which you obviously pay more)
This is how manufacturers cut costs.
It probably isn't so but how can you actually tell unless you see where these things are made. Just my 2 cents.

E-R's HO-Scale Sharks were made by Roco in Austria and that was the original intent of the N-Scale models but then E-R did a 180 on that shortly after they were announced. We would guess that E-R felt they could keep the price lower by having them built in China. That last thought is only an opinion. :D
