Around here the drivers have no input. But the mechanics do. On a flat nose any engine work is done on the inside of the bus [front mounted engine]. There are some D models with engines in the rear as in commuter type buses. One district here has all front engined "D" models. It serves an area that is very congested and the "D" models with their short wheel base are more maneuverable.
School-buses? Didn't think there was that much interest. Personally, I'd like to see someone else come out with grain trailers (GHQ models are disc. and go quickly when put up on NSYS, or outrageous on the bay) or dry bulk cement etc trailers like Make My Model had. As well as more tractors, wish Kato would release the Volvo's separately in pairs, like Atlas did
Grain truck are very limited in where they are used. But you can find some kind of schoolbus everywhere. You might want to see if Showcase will have what you are looking for they're reintroducing the old modes again.
Bump. Resurrecting this thread in case anyone is looking for a Shapeways project. A modern C model based on an International chassis and an older model also on an International chassis. International seems to be the more preferred modern chassis although Ford and Chevy/GMC chassis were used for older models as well.
drive a commercial vehicle 30k with no lube? really? do you personally own the bus? i'm glad i don't.....
I sure would like to see a 70's School Bus. And really would love to see a 70's - 80's Transit Bus which I don't think have been made either
its a c-49 urban bus with no 8-way warning lights and no child-safe door and no emergency door. a pretty weak and overpriced attempt at an accurate school bus, IMHO. rob
someone said they drove a school bus after their retirement..... unless one is fortunate enough to retire at younger-than-65 years of age, public school districts will not hire a 65+ retiree to drive a school bus on a regular run, i believe it is now illegal for them to do so. back in summit county ohio, i drove international-carpenter 66 (woodridge local schools #12) on regular K-12 runs when i was under 21- i believe that is illegal now, too- how do you like them apples?
if you get a part from shapeway at is warped. sit it aside for a couple weeks in most cases it will return to right place. my car hauler had warped side I left it sit in about straighted out
Well I am 70 and was hired last year by a school district. Previously worked for another school district where there were drivers in their 80's. As long as you have the qualifications and can pass the DOT medical exam you can drive. Lately, a lot of the school districts around here can't get enough drivers and many have raised the wage level. However, the training necessary to pass the driver's exam as well as the ongoing training that is now mandatory is an obstacle to many people. The job had enough obstacles to begin with.
