Here's one of the new Walthers 1944 AAR boxcars: I painted the truck sideframes boxcar red and added half an ounce of weight to bring it up to the NMRA recommendation.
You don't know how many projects I have done, where just as I finished it a RTR model came out, so be prepared as soon as you get the last decal on that NW5, I will be able to buy one RTR. Rick J
Just out of the box: The factory settings of the DCC decoder weren't really good - but after some tuning this little thingie runs smoothly and does what it is expected to do.
One end has a standard coupler, one end has this die cast thing looking like a coupler. There is no place inside for mounting a coupler because of the gear mechanism behind. So either you need a setup where you need a standard coupler only on one side or you have to find a way to mount some kadee coupler on the front.
No photos it now, because I do NOT feel like getting up and getting my camera! Went to a Northern Colorado Railroad club swap meet tonight. Came home with a couple of nice scores! The first, and heaven forbid that it's actually HO - AHM/Rivarossi 3 truck Heisler! And God help me, that it's also Steam!! Which I don't really care for! Looks like it has hardly been run. Now, gotta test it, and ask about DCC/Sound! Missed out on the ChallengerI saw listed. Never saw it. Scored good on the Heisler though: $20 Also got a couple of records, of theosunds of the Durango/Silverton Railroad. FREE Guy said if I could make a CD of both, he'd GIVE me the records! Didn't take but a couple of seconds to say Done Deal!! Have a name and address so I can send copies back, when I get done. Not a bad night, for looking over a fair amount of "Stuff". Was hoping to locate the Challenger that was listed, also for $20, but never saw it. Photos of the score tomorrow maybe. Hurting to much to walk right now.
In reality, one would just drive the Track Mobile off the tracks, turn it around, and then get back on the tracks. You can use the 0-5-0 for this. JMS
My latest HO purchase, during a swap meet in Ft Collins this past Thursday night. An AHM/Rivarossi 3 truck Heisler. Looks as if NEVER been run!! Now, to swap to Kadee couplers. Check how it runs, and maybe look into DCC/Sound in this thing!!
Couldn't find the Challenger that was listed. This was available, so I jumped on it!! The Heisler and Challenger were priced the same, a whopping $20 each!! if the Challenger had been there also, I'd have grabbed it as well! Not sure what I'm gonna do with 'em though! DCC and Sound are next, maybe!! If it can be done fairly easily.
An unusual locomotive, and a great deal! Yeah, probably the only reason I pulled the trigger and got it! Gotta test it now, to,see how it runs. Now, it looks as if NEVER been run, or tested at best!
