    Hi!

The new Apple Ipod is coming out, and it's only $100. Could you use one of these things to record background sounds, like wind through trees and rivers burbling, and then play them back under the layout? It's solid state, and it can shuffle play (repeat the songs forever...).

You can do so. You can do the same right now by playing the same thing out of your computer. The real question is where to place the speakers and how many channels you want to have separate sounds through.

And... it doubles as a USB drive. So I can take photos and software updates with me. I think it's a very cool device.

Its basically a player (no recording capability I know of). You would connect it to a set of speakers to play what ever you wanted. So you would need sound recordings of wind and rivers.

I never thought I would have a use for one of these but there are some good ideas here. Will have to keep it in mind.

What a wonderful idea! You could play the exact sounds you want! An unlimited choice of sounds. Not just a few sounds that are hand picked by someone else.
