We've made it once again. The weekend is so close, we can smell it! What does it smell like? Hmm, solder flux and paint perhaps? I've managed to get a weekend off but I'll pay for it by working the long 9-6 shift today. Last night I picked up all the Tam Valley items I need to get module 2 set up as far as turnouts. That includes the Octopus III 8 servo driver, the Octopus DCC decoder, three Dual Frog Juicers, six servos, six panel controls and six servo brackets. I started last night by wiring terminal blocks that feed off the main DCC and will distribute power to the servo driver and three Frog Juicers. Should the DCC main power no be enough, I can easily power the whole thing with a pure DC power transformer. So the goal this weekend is clear. Get all six turnouts set up and ready to work. Once they are done, I have two Tam Valley Singlets that will be installed on Module 3. I hope to get the two inch foam down and get started on the fascia and paint. Lots to do in two weeks! I also have those two GP38's to finish. They are in the home stretch, so I would really like to get that project put to bed. I may have some other surprises over the weekend too! So how about you? What is on the to do list this weekend? Let us know! We'll come back here on Monday the 15th and see how we all did. Until then, have a happy and safe weekend and... High Greens!
I have to work saturday but hope to get the wire strung on my powerline project. For the last few weeks I have been putzing with the utility poles; painting, planning, adapting, and last night I got a batch of them located on the layout. So, I hope to get the line strung. Here is a shot of a couple poles: Here is one of the poles where wire is taking off at a 90 to serve some businesses. I am putting a couple guy wires in, too; I am going with a smaller unit than the oversized eye shown in this photo:
Back from vacation. So this weekend more work in the trainroom. I have picked up the paint I need this week. Finally settled on a "blue" to match the sky. That was an effort. Found about a dozen different "blue chips" that I've held to the sky. Then because sunlight is so intense, I put them in my work shop against similar lighting I'll use in the trainroom. After much deliberation, I settled on a Glidden-Home Depot color, "Wild Blue Yonder", but I prefer Sherwin Williams. Sherwin Williams crossed referenced and got me a 5 gallon bucket of the stuff. So there's that. Had an HVAC contractor to the house early this morning and he's working up a price to put in the ductless split system I purchased. So we're getting there. But the order of the day over the weekend will be paint in the mornings while its cool up there.
I hesitate to make plans, as lately they've been falling aside and not getting done. I am hoping to start on an HOn30 diesel critter. Will I actually do it?
I picked up my City Classics company houses, which hopefully will the the kick in the buttocks I need to get started on some modeling and scenery work again. It's hot, too, so the AC in the trainroom will be mighty inviting...
With the family ok on the VA coast, I am knocking out all sorts of Honey Do projects. THe best part of that is I get to hit the train room after the sun goes down.
