Anyone know if the Triple Crossing in Richmond, VA (old C&O RR, Seaboard Air Line RR & Southern RR) was ever modeled? Thom
Paul I should have posted a picture like Hand did on his reply. Triple crossing is in an area called Shockoe Bottoms. The three railroad lines cross just west of I-95 as head south on the Interstate before crossing the James River. See this link for more info: http://www.american-rails.com/triple-crossing.html I was think of modeling the crossing. Was hoping to find someone may have done this project and get some tips on construction challenges. Thom
That was an interesting link, Thom. I like this quote, "Seaboard's assistant supervisor of its Virginia Division at the time perhaps put it best, "You try to get three railroads to do anything together and you'll have a devil of a time, but when you fool with something like this where three sets of intricate schedules are involved, you really have a problem."" In spite of real problems the involved railroads found ways to make this happen several times over the years. It's not just railfans who have an eye for the aesthetic. If ever there was a need for a rail park, this is it. I would really have a problem modeling this without a whole lot bigger layout, assuming I wanted a functional crossing. It's hard enough to get elevation for one crossing. Adding a third would be really sporting.
Now that NS has heritage units it's might soon be time once again to agitate for a photo op. I wonder if CSX has any plans for heritage units.
A quick hunt on Google found this... https://www.google.com/maps/place/T...0x0000000000000000:0x4633f0078fa4f087!6m1!1e1 But I can't find any models of it.
