I was tired of having trains sit in boxes, so I decided why not put the track on my desk? I personally think it worked out for the best let me know what you guys think?[IMG]Look Its Playstation Bend

    I like it all !!!

You're running trains...which to most of us is the end game anyways

Very creative making a layout in such a confined space....and it works.

I know its nice at times just to kick back and watch your trains run...its one reason progress has slowed on my layout...I'm having to much fun playing with the trains.

The weathered boxcar looks great to me.

    PlayStation bend...now that works too.

Get it done any way you can. Better than having no layout at all!

Very creative use of what you have available. I've lost count of how many times I've set up Unitrack on the floor just to watch something go, but that has to come up as soon as I'm done or...well, I dread the alternative.

Very nice. You're ahead of everyone who isn't running trains because they don't have the 'perfect' space.

Good idea on the desk. One of the grand things about N scale is what you can do with it in a little space.

Are you using nine and three quarter or eleven inch curves? Or even more? Be aware of the limitations of the nine and three quarter, but, at least, as others have posted, you have a train running while others who have accumulated boxes of power, rolling stock and electrical power are still "wating for the ideal space".

Even if you do have larger power and longer rolling stock, you can still set up a nine and three quarter loop and run a SW-1500 or GP-38 and some fifty foot cars (it appears that you like the more modern stuff), or, for those who prefer the older stuff, a VO-1000 or a 2-6-0, some forty foot cars and a caboose.

As you so well put it, you got tired of having the trains' sitting in the boxes. Funny, I have done similarly to what you are doing, in the past. After a few weeks of running the RS-3 and a few freight cars and a caboose around a loop of sectional on a table, I found the time and place to build a pike. Even if it was not the "ideal space" to allow the trackage that I wanted, I made something work in the space that I had. This made more trains come out of the box. When better steam and first generation diesels became available, I was able to run them around a pike instead of back and forth on a piece of flex.

You are headed in the proper direction.

Great rust job on the car. One thing that you might do is take an eraser to the lettering to fade it. This might require your re-doing some of the rust, but, judging from the rust job, it appears that you would be more than simply adequate to that task. Judicious use of alcohol and India ink will allow you to simulate the black lettering paint's running. The elements usually do take their toll on the markings, as well.

My most recent home layout was packed for a move in late Spring 2014; the move has not happened. In the meantime, I set up a loop of Unitrack on a table in my home office within reach of my computer. It has been a place to run short trains and test locomotives in which dcc decoders were installed. I have also tested the Unitrack turn table.

I truly need to do something similar. I did it on the kitchen table a few times, but the local zoning committee (Amanda) frowns upon such actions !!! Recently "adopted" a folding table from one of the landlord's empty houses, so I may finally be saved !!! I have to ask before someone else does. Will you be posting a how-to for your scenery ??? :teeth:

I have an L-shaped desk at work and a pretty hobby-positive set of co-workers. They're all hobbyists doing SOMETHING, whether it's motorcycle restoration or playing music or whatever. There is at least one other admitted N-scaler in the group.

I am thinking of bringing in some Kato Unitrack and just snapping together a simple switching set-up on my desk, just to generate some interest.

I've been relying on track pinned to cork bulletin boards that I can hang on the walls when the tables are needed for other things... which is most of the time since I'm the only train guy in the house. We all do what we need to do to keep the trains running- no shame in laying track wherever it'll fit, whenever you can, for as long as you need to.

Next week I'm moving again and might finally have enough room for a HCD- the new place has a garage!

Many, (more than 8), years ago I went on vacation - with - Unitrack ,

Recently I built a 'storage table'. Oddly enough it is the very close to the same height to the layout. Hmmmm. More to follow.

Coincidentally, (note the title on the catalog, "Last Chance"). Ya, Little did I know that she was dropping hints. Because of her I later met and married the most wonderful woman in the world. :)

Seems, she really did not like me bringing trains along on vacation. Go, figure. :)

    Running trains, running trains!! Great!!!!

Finally had an hour last sunday to actually be at home AND run trains on the home little layout. Aaaaah, it felt good to just listen to the steam puff around, build a train or two, switch them out on the local bafore the drag comes by......

Running trains, running trains!! Way to go!
