Can you believe May is half over? That is a shame as I love May but I also love June and that is coming quick. Did you have a great weekend? I sure did.

Craig and his fellow club members hit another ball out of the park with the 7th annual Ohio N Scale Weekend. The weather was warmer than last year and had scattered showers but those rain clouds did little to dampen the fun this past weekend. I saw a lot of great looking modules and models, met up with some old friends and made a few new ones. After my Weekend Modeling Plans thread on Friday, my fellow N scale member and friend showed up and we packed his car and were on the road by 7:30. With an hour break for lunch, we arrived at the event just around 3:30 local time. This year we had an even larger T-Trak set up than last which allowed us one very long outside line to be run on DCC and four independent DC lines. If you were part of the T-Trak group and didn't run anything, it wasn't due to a lack of track space! Friday night we enjoyed Pizza for dinner and later my fellow club member and I stopped in to the host clubs open house to check out their N scale layout. It is very impressive and it's clear this club has some dedicated and talented guys. Saturday was the longest day, a day I spent running my CB&Q passenger set, shopping for deals and talking with folks. Saturday night was packed with fun starting with the door prizes. I was fortunate enough to win a DPM building, something that is always useful! Next we had a great catered meal of German style. Spicy Brats, German potato salad and cream puffs to finish it off with. The auction was next and as always, was entertaining with some items getting some serious bids. My friend and I finished the day with a trip to Culvers for some custard and a quick install of a decoder in a Atlas Geep. Sunday was a fun day to pick up last minute deals and walk around with the camera, er I mean iPad. I ended up pulling the trigger on a Kato NW switcher and TCS decoder that is destined to be my main switcher for my Galesburg City Job and then packed up and headed west bound for Illinois. We ended up back in the Land of Lincoln at 9:00 local time. A huge thanks goes out to Craig, the club and the volunteers who made this weekend possible. Attendance was up so this show just keeps getting better and better. Make your plans now as the dates for next years Ohio N Scale Weekend is May 13-14-15 of 2016. This show, next to Galesburg is one of my favorites.

So how about you? Did you have as much fun as I? Let us know! We'll start this train again on Friday the 22nd and do it all over again. Until then, have a great week, stay safe and...

    High Greens!

I managed to finally paint and ballast the last unfinished section of track on my Zalma Branch layout. Nothing spectacular but it had to be done.

I did ... nothing. Mountain bike on Friday and road bike on Sunday, but no trains. I think I need to start some kits, just for something small that I can go to for an hour or two at a time.

This weekend, tape and "mud" went on the drywall installed last weekend. This and the sanding that occurs tomorrow will be the "painful" part. Next it's beefing up the subfloor and on to priming the walls.

I unfortunately didn't get a lot done. Saturday the fiance and I went to buy our appliances for the new home. I went to my LHS Friday to get some brass rod to install turnout throws in places where I couldn't put them in their normal spot. That's proving to be harder than I planned to get the rods bent properly. I installed a few other "normal" positioned ones though. Beyond that, I just ran a couple trains for a bit.

I continued work on the Proto GP18 that is becoming GTW 4703. I added some details, fixed some decals, and started some reassembly.

There was also some repair and maintenance work on a Proto F3A. It had stopped running, though I could hear the motor humming and the headlight was working. On opening up, I found that the wire to the LED headlight (which I replaced not too long ago) had wrapped itself around the drive shaft. So I pulled that out of the way and made sure that didn't happen again. I noted the wheels were a bit dirty so it went to the wheel cleaning bench, where I discovered that there was no power pickup from the front truck. Open up - again - and found that the black wire was severed from the contact coming up from the truck. Once it was fixed, I tested it before putting the shell back on and all works fine now.

I also fixed the loud squeaking (or shrieking) noise coming from the front truck of a Model Power FP45 (a nostalgia thing, I had one when I was a kid), and resolved a derailing issue on an old Athearn PA.

My long weekend isn't over yet! Victoria Day today so I'll be playing with trains some more and getting out in the sun and fresh air.

Oh, and RIP my Dremel that I have since 1990. The plastic bushing that links the motor to the output shaft disintegrated. I'll see if there are parts still available and try to fix it.

Not even close. Have seen a few photos, and that meet looked great.

I drilled a bunch of holes and made some grab irons. More to do....

Be sure to seal off the rest of the house. Or you will have a coating of gritty dust everywhere, which takes forever to be gone.

Jim, thanks for your kind words. It is always a great joy to hear of a participant who had fun at the Ohio N-scale Weekend. I would like to thank BoxcabE50 for posting the pictures for me. Jim, if you could could you post what you took? I was so busy Saturday and Sunday, I had no time to take additional pictures. The 8th Ohio N-scale Weekend is already under way, planning wise. Another large t-trak is already forming in the mind of Thom, look forward to seeing the result. Again, thanks to all who attended and look forward to seeing you again next year. later, Craig

I am not sure I had as much fun as Jim W, but I did make some progress on my rock wall and also hit a snag which I turned into something really cool--

Some of the rock was in the way of the track, I drilled out holes like what you would insert your dynamite into and did some blasting to create some realistic blasted rock face:

Here is a broader view, I will add a little more mud at a couple cracks and maybe get it painted and landscaped before the week is done!

This is true. I've stapled 4 mil poly around the HVAC room door and over the 2nd electric panelboard I put up there. + the stair door that went to the attic was fully weather-stripped. I've got to seal around the cubby hole doors to behind the kneewalls tonight. You're correct. That dust is murder. Even with sealing and our dry-wall guy using dust collection sanders, that stuff will still get around the house to some extent.

Very nice result. I like the weathering along the bottom edge.
