    Hey everyone,

My club does not allow Talgo trucks on the layout and I have a massive set of Rivarossi cars that happen to have talgos. Any one have a simple way of converting and adding kadees? I was thinking of tapping and placing the housing for the couplers.

Would they allow you to make a conversion car to pull your other cars? We have a couple of conversion cars on our club layout that have Kadee on one end and Talgo on the other... that we you can pull your own cars by just converting one. Unless of course they don't want them on the layout regardless. Just a thought.

I actually thought the same thing. No talgos period.

Sounds like time to get them all body mounted. Get a Kadee #205 coupler height gauge, pin vise, tap and drill bits.....

Most Rivarossi are designed for european coupler mounts, or NEM couplers. You can swap those out with kadee NEM couplers.

It all depends on what era your trucks were made in.

I must say that every time I hear about club rules, I am grateful I am a lone wolf train fan and modeler.

Problem with NEM couplers is that they are still truck mounted, which is what the club policy prohibits. If you want to operate on that clubs layout, the solution is to install floor mounted couplers on your Rivarossi cars.

It seems your club is kind of sucky. Performance should be the operating criteria, not rules. Can it stand up to operating needs?

Yes! lol all metal wheels added weight to them. I don't get the talgo thing? I believe its a rule from the 40's/50's clubs 75 years old and so are the rules.lol

Not at all! lol I was in agreement to what you said.
I have 30" radius on my home layout and no issues my club has 40-42 I think so I dunno how there would be an issue.

Our club has standards that are meant to be for compatability of equipment and reliable operation. Couplers must be mounted as per prototype. Kadee couplers are required on all equipment operating on the club's railroad.
I'm glad to be a member of a club even though I have my own railroad.
