I have been watching Evilbay for an ACL caboose now for several weeks. I was hoping to find one of the new Atlas made cabooses. However I have had no luck whatsoever and am now broadening my search to just about any manufacturer of cabooses. They are out there in HO and O scale, just not in N. Does anyone know if there were any made, ever? If so, by who?

I have a pair of Atlas SD 35s and a freight consist with no tail end! Need to fix that! :eek:hboy:

Has Micro-Trains ever done one? Maybe look through the production list data bases on their web site?

Without looking, I don't think MTL has done one. Seaboard Air Line, yes, ACL, no. Chances are it would just be a stand-in on any of their three body styles.

The closest I can find is a Family Lines/SCL model (Atlas, I believe)

The Bluford Shops cars were made by Atlas about seven years ago.

Your were right, special run by Bluford Shops. Very nice caboose. They made two with two different road numbers. Out of stock. Anyone know where I can get one, if not both? New or used?

And you may want to give WigWag a call to see if there is any chance he still has some in stock.

Can you wait until this summer.

The Atlas cab is scheduled for second quarter.

The Walthers stock numbers were 188-94303 and 188-94304.
You could call them and see if they still have a record of which dealers had ordered those cars.
It's a bit of a long shot, but it might help narrow down your search.

Thanks guys, I will check into those listed. That SCL/Family Lines is a good bit after the merger with Seaboard. Trying to find one that ACL used while still independent. That would be prior to 1968 if I remember correctly.

If my notes are correct, ACL+SAL was July 1, 1967.

I looked a while back, and realized as well that there's no accurate older Atlantic Coast Line cabooses available.

This is a foobie that I painted up, using a standard Micro-Trains wooden slant-side cupola caboose. MicroScale has a nice set of decals. Simple brush-painted.

I realize with a pair of ACL SD35's, you probably want the modern steel caboose that previous posts have pointed you to anyway. Just FYI in case you wanted to see what
might be possible if you happened to want the older wood caboose.

This is what the real wooden ACL caboose looked like (this is an HO model):

This is a nice website showing what both wooden and steel ACL cabooses look like:

    Hope this helps.

John, that class M5 in the orange color was what I was looking for. I talked to Steve Rogers at Bluford Shops and they made a limited run of about 150 around 8 years ago with the help of Atlas for production. They are long gone now. Interestingly, he said he has actually received a lot of requests for those cabeese over the last few years. He recommended I talk to Atlas about a run, so I called but haven't gotten a return call yet. I may try again next week. Maybe if Paul from Atlas is reading this thread? LOL Steve said they would give them the artwork! It would be an easy run, just change the road numbers and go since they have already done them once. I'll fill y'all in on what I am able to find out if anything.

Seems like a simple enough candidate for a custom paint job. Unfortunately, it looks like MicroScale only carries HO scale ACL caboose decals :-(

Just my 2 cents worth here - anyone with an Alps printer can print those decals up fairly easily with the black cartridge. If you know the fonts and approximate sizes it would be an easy task. Orange and black roofed caboose wouldn't be too hard to do either if you are inclined to paint.
