Seeing that bent stirrup reminds me of hours spent in the rain, with torch and sledge hammer, straightening out such bent items. At times kept warm with heat of certain words being added to the exercises.

Interesting how the angle changes the focus. The overhead shot does a wonderful job showing off the streambed.

Almost ready. It just needs signs and a little more weathering. This is a Hidden River Manufacturing laser kit, (HO scale), "Wausau Junction" depot. Except it is painted for my own railroad and will carry a different station name:

    Some progress on the SVS

I promised an update on progress to the layout. I've been working on scenery elements for the return loop at the west end of the layout. I took the double track mainline up and over to what will be staging for the "west end" of the layout. A double track 19.5"/21" radius return loop runs under it. I had a plan for the geometry, but the scenic elements weren't working out as planned, what works on paper never seems to look right once it's built. There just wasn't enough space for realistic vehicle access and space between structures. Plus it was supposed to represent realistic scenes. So I am basically building it in place with part of it based on real location and the rest what ever works. Odd approach, but hey what ever works, I guess. It's been years getting to this point. I have a fully operating double track main line with end loops, and a fully operational yard with engine facilities. That was the first goal. Now I can take my time getting the scenery and detail right and be able to operate at the same time so I don't lose interest as I had in the past.

The first picture (Sunset Motel) is built on a lift out in the center of the return loop. The double track to the right is the mainline running out to the west end staging.

The second picture is from west side of the mainline. You can see the mainlines diverging from the loop. On the right hand side the loop follows a highway matching what it does in the prototype (but far from exact). Third picture is the opposite view.

Fourth picture is a close up of the highway under construction. There is an exit that feeds the road where the motel is added.

Fifth picture is coming out of the reverse loop. The mainline is not visible (hidden by the foam that will be the base for the highway. The visible track represents the old DLW Vestal branch and serves a pipe factory (what the blue Grant Line building will be).

Sorry but I haven't figured out how to post pictures in the body of the post so I can add notations.

I suppose that an updated map of the layout would help, but I can't get my laptop version of AutoCAD to give me an exportable file. You need PDF professional to create it and I don't have that on my laptop either. There is an old layout map in my Rail Images folder, but that version is out of date.

thanks Mike. I have a lot of work to do, but I'm finally in the home stretch. I'm happy with the operational aspects, I can just run trains around the loops if I want and I can work the yard at the same time. There is a lot more to do with the industries and sidings, the biggest delay trying to come up with a signaling system for turnout indication. I have bipolar LED's on my panels for block indication and direction and that works pretty well for continuous operation, but it doesn't do occupancy detection--yet.

I like your heritage unit. I see you have a fleet of the Rapido cars there. How do you like them? I like the looks, but I was very disappointed with their performance. I had to replace the trucks and couplers to keep them from random uncoupling and frequent derailments. I didn't expect to have to do that after paying nearly $50 per car.

Of course now that the warmer weather is finally getting here, there won't be much more progress this season except on rainy weekends.

    Take care,
    Ron

. I had the same problem Ron. I sent them back. They had warped chassis's. I also added weights to the cars. Then all the tuning up & new trucks made a huge difference. They were definitely not ready to release them when they did.
