just wondering what is the latest info on the Baldwin AS 616 kits. I just picked up a used Alco C628 and thought about converting it to a high nose for my freelance line ,but then remembered the shapeways baldwin kit.
Is the C628/630 chassis right for the shell? does anybody have photos of the competed engine?
I really like the looks of older high nose engines.

    Thanks RGW

I know nothing about the kit, but the C628/630 chassis is much too long to be used in an AS616 shell.

The C-628 conversion was to produce a Baldwin DT-6-6-2000 center cab locomotive using a Shapeways printed shell. l don't believe that there is a AS 616 shell available unless the AS 16/DS 4-4-1500 shell is the same or close enough. I've been wanting an AS 616A and B for so long I have kind of just given up (hoping that would speed up someone coming out with one).

    Hi RGW1,

I think the shell you have seen on Shapeways is an AS 16 created by my fellow 3D Designer PiperguyUMD. As JMaurer1 said my shell is the DT6-6-2000, that chassis will also fit my RT-624 shell which is a later Baldwin used alot by the Penssy.

I have checked, it's an AS 16 shell. Without my Diesel Spotters Guide with me I can't remember if the only difference between the AS 616 and AS 16 was the trucks or is there major differences with the shell as well?
