    Hi guys,

Just had to get a quick video of the new Bachmann N Scale 2-8-4 Berkshire.
Nice little loco with great details and Tsunami sound.

The steady beat of that bell sounds like it is an air ringer. The only sound missing is that of a duplex air pump kicking into a cycle.

Just wondering if the jackrabbit start and jerky speed control is because the CV's need to be tweeked yet. OR...is this running on DC....thnxs

Thanks for posting the video; even though these is another topic on this locomotive it is nice to see in running in an additional setting.

We took the loco out of the box and put it on the track to test it so I think that it can use a brake in period. It is running on DCC. After taking the video we ran the loco for a while and its performance did seem to improve a bit. Customizing the motor control CVs and using the speed table should help. The loco has traction tires and does pull a lot of cars. In the video we coupled 10 cars but were able to pull 20 with no issues on level track later that evening. Thanks for taking a look at the video.

Hey, thanks for the video. I was wondering, though, can the mars light flash?

Do not have mine in hand yet, however I had the Soundtraxx dcc with sound decoder installed in two Kato GS-4s n-scale; that function is controllable.

Yes and no. Bachmann installed one LED for the headlight and Mars light so they are both illuminated from the one source. You can make the LED flash by changing CV 49 from the default 142 to 130 but then the headlight and MARS light will flash together. Of course another light can be installed with a DCC function decoder or Mars light effects generator.

LOL More, video, we want more video. LOL

That would be nice to see it put through it's paces. Did I say that right?

Yep, more video would be good.

I plan on doing a side-by-side comparison of both the LL 2-8-4 Berkshire and the Bachmann 2-8-4 Berkshire, both installed with sound.

Does it bother anyone else that "2-8-4 Berkshire" is redundant? Or is that just the crackpot English major in me?
Seriously, Bachmann seems to have another winner here.

The C&O version is a "Kanawha".

It looks like yours has the same slow speed herki-jerkiness that mine has (mine will actually lock up in forward if you try to run it below about speed step 4). I haven't had a chance to take it apart yet, but my guess is that it's due to Bachmann "wobbly driver bearing" syndrome. In any case, I'll know more next week when I get back.

    Cheers,
    -Mark

I just received my NKP Berkshire, pulled it out of the box still cold from the delivery vehicle. With stock CV settings on my Digitrax system it started at step #1 and ran pretty darn good. IMO it's a little high geared and runs more like a Kato loco, running at a fairly good clip at step 15 were an Atlas loco would be at 25-30. I'm real happy so far, but I only have about 15 minutes on her right now!

Here are a few interior shots of the N Berkshire. Metal boiler shell and nice engineering of the parts with plug in Bachmann/Soundtraxx Tsunami.
    Have Fun!
