Wow. Thanks for all these great pictures, Rick. These views really demonstrate well how N and scenery ratios work.
Great Show, Great Time Thanks to the SVFMON group for letting us guests run on their modules. This was my first try at this and had a great time running and talking to folks. A few mishaps derailing while talking to people, but other than that it went off without a hitch. Nils and Rick gave me a lot of inspiration from their work.
Here's the video I shot of the show
Here's some more pictures from my time on the FreeMoN layout. I had so much fun talking "shop" with people and operating trains that I barely even wandered the show floor! No regrets though. 1. An eastbound WP grain train is headed for the port of Stockton likely, across Nils Moberg's freelance Bridge of Wonder module. 2. "Old" meets "new" in the Effet yard. The reality is the "new" is the absolute extend of modern equipment I own, if it wasn't around on in the early 1980s on the WP, I can't have it. 3. My mixed freight passing through Rick Brodzinsky's excellent Silicon Valley station module, on the freight bypass. 4. The same WP mixed freight going back across the Bridge of Wonder. 5. And again through another one of Nils Moberg's module, that he simply referred to as "Industrial". This module was very cool in the fact that if you want to, you could do a little banging around of the cars. 6. Nil's well weathered modern freight rolls across the Bridge of Wonder. Seeing his grimey equipment makes me realize I need to do this weathering thing sooner or later. Maybe not as dirty though, I think the WP guys knew how to use the wash racks more frequently than the UP guys do... Sorry for the emphasis on the Bridge of Wonder as it seems to remind me of a certain bridge (minus the middle girder section) that the WP may have crossed. I want to thank everyone for letting me operate on their beautiful modules - Rick Brodzinsky, Nils Moberg, Ryan Wilkerson, MC Fujiwara (whom was not there, but I knew of from here @ TB), and Robert Toby's plywood valley. It really inspired me towards doing my own FreeMoN modules and I'm sure I'll have some modules someday representing the Sacramento FreeMoN.
Rick, Great video, thanks for sharing. Any chance to see "The World's Most Beautiful Train" is a real treat, I miss my GS-4, as it is in for surgery. Oh, BTW, the layout is cool to. I see a lot of hard work there. Carl
Ryan, In one of your pictures it looks like you have plastic leg adjusters.Where did you find them? Thanks Don
Hi Don, Yes, we use plastic leg adjusters...they are easy to adjust by hand and are kind to the floor, which is sometimes important. There are a couple sources. Rockler sells sets of 4 for $17.49: http://www.rockler.com/adjustable-leveler-leg Some other guys found a cheaper source (www.nscale.net/forums/showthread.php?32966-Free-moNebraska/page6)...I don't know if these are exactly the same as the Rocklers but they are close enough and function just fine for me. You only need to buy these two parts...I bought: Titus Leg Leveler screw on mounting socket T2559 LA $0.59/ea when ordering 20+ Titus Leg Leveler T2666 LA $0.95/ea when ordering 20+ http://www.wwhardware.com/titus-leg-leveler-components-titus-leg-levelers -Ryan
