I have a TCS decoder installed in an Atlas RS3. When I try to run it, it runs at full speed. I have tried factory reset and emergency stop to no avail. Any suggestions on how to get it under control would be most appreciated.

    Thanks,
    John

It sounds like a the decoder is shorting out on the frame. Double check that the decoder is completely isolated.

It could be a command station thing. I've had this happened, reset the CS back to factory defaults and the problem was solved.

I too have seen this with a bad command station. I take it that your other locos run properly? Did the RS3 ever run correctly or is this a new decoder install?

My first thought was the motor is shorted to frame some place.

On an Atlas engine, look for one or both motor contacts shorting to the frame. I wrap the sides of my Atlas frames with kapton tape in the contact area. Helps a lot.

It was a short and lots of kapton tape did the trick.

    Thanks for the advice,
    John
