    Hello All,
I am new to model railroading and I am looking to do a shelf layout with the little space I have. I am considering either going 21" or 2ft wide. I want to have a small yard, a place for my cement facility, a maintenance facility for my engines, and I have a couple of warehouses to place on it. [IMG]

Is this a single level layout? I have built several layouts in small rooms that where narrow but wound around the room like a corkscrew. What era and what is the railroads purpose?

This will be a single level layout. This is a modern era layout. My desire is to have a small yard, and engine house for maintenance and fueling, a cement company and a background warehouse. These are the building I have. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Does the 55" include the door or just up to the door? Does the 82" dimension include the window or just up to the window? Can you build in front of the window?

    Hello Steve,
55" is up to the door and 82" is up to the window. My plan is not to build in front of the door or window.

Glakedylani only measured up to the door and to the window I did not measure all the way. The angle is throwing it off but I have to deal with it

I may come out 12" to 18" from the wall.

Tad different post: I notice you are using Atlas sectional code 83 track. First I'll tell you what's better about these than flex track. The spike heads are way more realistic than flex because they're much smaller. Why ? Because sectional curves are already permanently curved so they don't need flexing. Atlas flex, which hoards of MRRers use including moi. I did build a wye at one end which serves TT-less engine house and a small interchange using 18" Rad. sectional because of limited peninsula space and I love this scene. Flex uses larger spike heads to handle the twists and turns we make with it. They'd tend to pop off on the outside on the curves thus need heavier rail grabbing strength. I just want to tell a cool thing to make the incorrect looking end ties on the sectionals look more real.: Before securing it down, take an Exacto knife, flip it over and slice off the first tie at both ends by slicing the small unsightly areas beneath the rails which connect them to the 2nd ties in, right up next to 2nd ties. That's it. Install them as usual including the joiners. When you get back to them, white glue wooden ties to fill up the empty areas below the ends. 1/16th" x 1/32nd" (could try 1/16th square. I haven't.) bass wood sliced to scale lengths. It's not exactly HO scale tie dimensions. But even I don't notice it. Oh, best to stain/spray them tie-color after they're cut, but before gluing down. The whole rail scene looks much more proto doing this. I came up with this a long time ago, but I'm sure I'm not the first. And it's fun to do.. Mark

Would put the mainline closer to the front edge of the shelf so you're not always having the reach so far. Also industries could be put on both sides of the mainline.

Cajon, totally. I just plopped that track down. I just wanted to see if that guy still had an interest in a layout.

How wide are you making the shelves? Are all your switches Atlas #4's?
