http://www.athearn.com/Search/Default.aspx?SearchTerm=Big+Boy&CatID=TNLS New News from Athearn... ???
YeeHaw!...I better start saving my nickels and dimes for a few more to augment the ones I already have! Cheerio! Bob Gilmore
I must resist, I must resist, I must resist.......... I love the big steam, so it will be difficult to watch these go by a second time. Focus, Focus, Focus...... ATSF Texas Type, and I will go broke buying them!
2016!? So this is a pre-announcement announcement, announcing the pre-announcement of the pre-announcement announcing announcement?
Make sure you get the one with the oil tender and correct pilot to compliment those. These are doing two versions of 4014. Oil with coolers removed from pilot, and coal with coolers still on front pilot. And I wasn't ever planning on getting a 4014, but with the choice already with oil tender and pilot mods, and being a year and half out at minimum. I bit on it. Chris
dragged my feet and missed out on the previous releases...will definitely be getting one of these! At first I thought 4014 would be the one, but reconsidering that now---definitely coal bunker-circa 1957! Bruce
Well... here we are about a month after I posted the thread about the new Big Boys... and what should I see posted on a Rocky Mountain e-tailers site... NEW Athearn Challengers... 5 new UP numbers including 2 in the 'Grey-White' aka the Greyhound scheme A re-run of the 3985 with and without sound AND... Another D&RGW road number... #3805... which is great for me. Of course... just as the last time these were released... Unfortunately it looks like I'm not going to be able to get those UP Greyhounds... just can't see spending $1000 for three of these models... :-( BUT... very happily will get the D&RGW number!!!
There is a Train store in North Miami that still has one Greyhound 3977 in stock looking for a good home. They had 3985 and I pick it up on Friday before Athearns made there announcement later that day.
Reee-hee-heeee-lyyyy then... where have they been hiding that big sucker??? I've been to that shop dozens of times since that model was released and have never seen those Greyhounds on exhibit. I'll have to investigate further... though cost may be an issue still... hmmm???
