I expanded my layout and I needed to make my cable longer. Bought a 4 wire phone line to go from the MRC 20 to the hand held and it goes crazy. Looked for 6 wire phone line, no luck at box stores.Hook up the old coiled wire and it works great.Whats going on?

How many conductors are in that 4 wire phone line? Looked at a manual, and it only uses 4 of the 6 conductors in the wire, so it should work provided the connectors are oriented correctly.

If it's just a cheapo extension, there may only be one pair connected on the innermost contacts, because that's all a residential phone line uses.

If you need six wires, you will find it in the Ethernet cable section, not the phone section. CAT-5 cables work well.

    You need the MRC wire.

Most likely, like on the NCE DCC system, you can't use just a simple 6 conductor wire. On one end is the little bendy piece, and on the other end, the bendy piece is on the opposite side. Might be the same as the MRC system.

6 conductor won't be in the "ethernet section", it's for phones only. They're probably in the same general location in any hardware store anyways. A patch cable for networking won't fit either.

Diagram on page 7. The mod tips are flipped on either end by looking at the diagram.

Found an RJ-12 25 footer (reverse) on amazon for $4 and shipping (as an example).
