Well we made through the first weekend of 2015. How did you do?

Saturday was my work day this past weekend so nothing was accomplished that day, but Sunday was a nice surprise. Angela did her shopping on Saturday which left me open all day Sunday to get things done. I installed the main bus wires on Module two and installed the pig tails that allow me to daisy chain the modules. I'm using the large Molex connectors like they use in the RC industry and so far have worked out well. While I was at it, I built up a few more pairs of pig tails for the other modules so assembly will be quicker in a future date. I ordered my track last week and hope to have it in time for my next day off this coming Wednesday. I also worked on the club newsletter which takes up a few hours of my time as well. Other than that, a nice albeit short modeling weekend.

So how about you? What did you accomplish during the first weekend of the New Year? Let us know. We'll be back on Friday the 9th to start off another Modeling Weekend. Until then, stay safe, have a good week and...

    High Greens!

I got all my turnouts wired, and after a little tinkering they all work!! I used the Bachmann EZ track for turnouts, I know a lot of guys don't like them but I like how the machine is built in and they cost less overall for a remote kit.

I found out that the grey roadbed turnouts are a lot more substantial than the black roadbed ones when you activate the switch. All my track is Atlas flex track and I do have a few manual Atlas turnouts on the layout as well.

Here is a photo which shows some of the turnouts: layout 021.jpg

I managed to finally get some streets down in the town and even a bit of ground cover.

That looks great! You're really making some progress. Those vehicles are very nice.

I did manage to make the planned T-Trak module backdrop. In fact, made a second and wanted to do more, but a trip to the hardware store is needed. The weather closed in and in order to not be killed by some moron who can't drive in snow, I am staying home. :(

Sorry. Being retired, I forgot yesterday was Monday.

I got the window inserts for that structure sprayed, as promised. The living room is now cleared of all things Christmas, too.

I had a bit of coffee-table time while watching football, so I finally got around to replacing the junk couplers that came with my Bachmann GG-1. The rear one failed after a few weeks in service, so I've been running the engine in reverse (who cares? It's a GG-1.) ever since. New Kadees were a simple drop-in replacement.

I also did some awkward track maintenance. I had a turnout that was only throwing halfway. It's a snap-switch, and in the most awkward possible place to get to. I never found exactly what the trouble was, but I suspect a piece of ballast had dislodged and stuck under the point rails. I poked at it with a bamboo skewer, manually moving the points until the problem cleared.

    Got a few things done..

-Found 4 decoders still in packages in the ruins of my train room.
-Installed one into my Bachmann light mountain
-Reassembled a Kato Mikado that had a broken shell. Still fighting with handrails, my eyes seem to be giving me issues with detail stuff and ended up buying a magnifier with LED lights. :( That made me kind of sad, which led me to look at HO stuff, and the prices which made it even worse.
-Broke the pin on the tender of my Bachmann Class J that holds the drawbar after loading a new sound file. Sad panda.
-Fixed decoder in a Dash 9 so ditch lights would alternate properly instead of the wonky way they were.
-Started cleaning up the ruined train room so I can start rebuilding (after 2 years).
-Two new turnouts with the Fast Tracks jig.

I feel your pain Todd. I sure am glad I moved from N scale to HO about 25 years ago. I have about 4 or 5 of these hanging around.
