I am looking at buying a handheld railroad scanner. I was thinking about one of the basic 100 channel analog models. I don't know much about the switch to digital, but it looks like it has begun. Any recommendations? Thanks

I keep wondering how much longer it might be worth buying analog. As the switching to digital continues, eventually they'll shut down everything else.

I still don't think there's any hurry to switch the road channels. It has primarily popped up on just secondary stuff, like yard repeaters and carmen type stuff. You should still be ok for quite a while. There's a decent chance the new NXDN protocol could be available in the future, as I believe the architecture in the latest Uniden models might allow for that eventually. Or worse case... There will always be actual NXDN radios, and the prices for those will be dropping as time goes on. They're not nearly as bad as Moto stuff.
