Any chance of finding out what rolling stock is still available? I've been needing an SP C-40-3 caboose and a SP stock car for the last two years and the monkey is still on my back.
Bob, I so glad for you. Best wishes to your family. Somebody a while back made my day by announcing a Seaboard Air Line/Coast line caboose. Was that Traincat? I can't remember.
Does anyone know if Bob at Traincat Models is still in business? I placed an order the first part of February and haven't seen hide nor hair of it and I tried contacting them through the website and have been unsuccessful in getting a response so far. Anyone out there know what is happening to this shop. Thanks for any reply's.
FWIW, Bob hasn't posted anything on Railwire since early March. Could be he's having to deal with more "real life" issues, although that's just speculation on my part. Cheers, -Mark
Last I recall on TB...Bob was working on his Canyon Diablo bridge and instructions. Thats been awhile though. I pray all is well for him at home.
To paraphrase someone else's response to a similar inquire a few years ago, he is probably off at a remote corner of the globe "Macgyvering" some disabled aircraft into flying out of a dangerous situation. It is a shame he make a living doing something like that for the government and only manages his garage business when he gets his boots on the ground at home for a short respite before heading off on another crisis. He has some awesome stuff but obtaining it requires a lot of patience.
I agree, the product is over the top but the service sometimes takes a licking. I think I'll just wait it out and see what happens, I'm way past the point of a refund from paypal, that passed a month ago.
I ordered a few things through Fifer in Jan or early Feb and just received them a week or two ago. He's slow but he hasn't quit yet.
I was looking at Bob's website. Updates are pretty old. I know he had health issues in his family. Has anybody had any contact? I was thinking of ordering something, but am hesitant. Just checking.
I wouldn't place an order unless you hear from him directly. I have a fairly large order I would love to place with him myself...but, I would exercise caution. There have been a few folks that ordered *after* the health/family issues were past and haven't received word back from him. (I'm not suggesting money exchanged hands or any wrongdoing or anything like that--at all--just that there hasn't been a response) I completely feel for him and hope everything works out and that his family and health issues get resolved soon.
There was a thread either here or on another board about how he is trying to get going again after having some rather severe medical issues in the family. I know that most of the rolling stock kits have been discontinued and are only being done on a limited run basis. He goes by Traincat2 on this board but his last post was in January of this year. There was a thread somewhere about what was going on but I can't seem to find it right now. Great products but like so many home based part time businesses they can be difficult to juggle especially when family or medical problems invade.
This summer when I was at the Bedford show, I heard about his bad health & he was behind on orders. I was also told not to expect anything from him.
Some sound advice here. If you have a desired item I would try and find an etailer from here on TB that might have remain stock: i.e. Fifer Hobbies stocks his product line and may have what you desire left
While I sympathize with someone having health issues and personal problems, to me it would be the most logical course of action to shut down a website which offers items for sale if they are in no position to honor any sales which may come in from clients who have no knowledge of the situation. Traincat's online store is still open for business. Anyone can place an order with them and then wonder why they don't receive their item... I don't think that's fair to the consumer and is a somewhat dubious business practice.
Still waiting for an order from a year ago and have had no contact although I have tried many times. Paid with Paypal but you only have 45 days to file a claim and it was always "in the mail" so the 45 days passed and no order. Looks like it will never be filled.
